1/72nd Scale P-51A

Post by Warbird Kid » Wed Mar 06, 2013 10:54 pm

Me? Building something OTHER than a 1/144th scale kit?! I must have lost my mind.

Cut the original tail wheel doors off and replaced them with thin sheet styrene. Cut off the original bumps that were guns, hollowed out the gun ports. Added brass tubing. No cockpit detail so I found a 1/72nd pilot and added him in there. Simple rattle can OD paint with brushed on Grey underneath. Combination of dry brushing, pastels, and thinned paint for weathering. Decals are compiled together.

Base is a simple one you can find at any arts & crafts store. Sheet styrene plastic for the concrete. Drawn out then scribed. Basic landscape grass used for edge. Still need to stain the sides of the base. Enjoy!

Nice! 8)
Got a soft spot for early war fighters.

There's nothing out there in a diecast P-51A, or I'd buy it. Particularly in 1:72 which I still collect, though it's taken a back seat to collecting 1:144 lately.
