Well, if you're a fan now just wait until it warms up and I can start painting.

S0...I have built 30 kits since the beginning of January. I have almost that much left in armor, and then its back to airplanes for a while.

Taking a break on the Blitz to acquire a better set of figures for the cab as the kit ones are crap (they would look better painted bright yellow with black and white circles on the sides of their heads) and I can't seal the cab until the crew is done.

So, in the meantime work is switching to the Sd.Kfz. 184.

You're moving on to the Dragon Elefant then..That's a far better kit - and the tracks are a lot less work than the Porsche Jagdtiger I see you also have, I've got one on the go at the moment, and they take an age..all those individual connector pieces.. Does looks realistic when done though.

I see you also went for the early issue Dragon Hornisse, Did you have any trouble getting the track to fit?

Haven't done the tracks yet. Most of my tanks don't have their suspensions permanently attached yet to make painting easier, as my plan was to get all that painted and put into place THEN attach the tracks.

I asked about the Hornisse in case you weren't aware that when it was first released, the 6001 version of the kit had some pretty bad fit issues, one of which was the track wouldn't fit between the return rollers and the underside of the fenders and fighting compartment.

It was the first in house 1/35 Dragon kit and was that bad that Dragon sacked the team that did the design work and revised the moulds, hopefully you got one of these revised kits. (Over here, you could return the first release kits to the retailer and exchange for the updated model)

If you haven't already, perhaps try a test fit to avoid problems once the paint's on, although judging by your modelling skills, I'm sure you will be able to sort it anyway.

I had heard that, actually. Mine appears to have enough room, but we shall see when the time comes.

Honestly, though, after dealing with that craptastic Bison kit by Alan Models, I think I can handle some ornery tracks.

The Alan kit was one of those sweet deals where you find out something should have been attached prior to something else and you have to break shit to get it together.

Elefant all done but the tracks and paint prep. Zimmerit by Eduard. Photoetch did the job mostly, but there are a few areas that will need some touchup. Think I'm going to be predictable and do an Anzio vehicle:

Image

FUN FACT: The two bolts on the right side were molded on wrong so they had to be cut off and relocated to fit the zimm.

So, that makes 32 armor and softskin kits built since the beginning of 2014. So as not to totally overwhelm myself (by building the other 30+ kits I've stockpiled) AND to enjoy a change of pace I am going to attempt my He-111P next while I wait for it to get warm enough to start painting. This will be the biggest plane I've built since I built Monogram's 1/48 B-29 back in the 70's. While on the one hand I will be painting an interior no one will see since the plane will be hung "in-flight" overhead, at least I will be spared cleaning and assembling yet more wheels and track links ad nauseum. That shit gets old.

HK Models B-17G arrives tomorrow.

Pretty freaking excited.

Haven't gotten beyond the first two pages with the He-111 but there has been a lot of birthdays and other family stuff taking priority; this weekend will see some gains.

Now that the weather and family have stabilized here, I have been able to start making some progress:

He 111-P
Image

Going to use some 21C pilots from the kits in the visible areas
Image

Fuselage and wing roots are attached now and setting; flying surfaces and canopy on and then she's ready for paint!
Image

Early dry fit of the wings - she's big but not B17 big
Image

And decided to try a late war camo-over-primer effect for the Jagdpanther, so here she is with base coat on. Hopefully weathering will dull it down a tad.

Crew done and almost ready to assemble the canopy. Then wings and elevators and she is ready for paint.

Looks good. Where did you get the crews ?

They both came from 21st Century kits; one BF109-F2 and one Macchi c.202. The Italian looked close enough to pass once I tarted them all up with acrylics. Hell, most of the European pilots wear a similar combo of colors so once zipped up inside you can't tell from a distance.

Finally got the greenhouse all attached so the next post should be the initial paint prior to weathering and decals.

So I was doing some searching on ebay for armor kits and kept seeing Dragon made a Jagdpanther G2. Wondering what made the G2 different from the average Jagdpanther, I looked it up. Well, I discovered that my Tamiya Late Version JP was a G2, but Tamiya had only changed the heat vent cover on the engine deck and made none of the other changes, chief of which was the fact all tools were removed from their normal stowage along the sides and placed on the rear.

This meant I had to break off all the tools I had earlier glued down and relocate them; fill the old mounting holes, and make new tow cables as the originals were now too short.

But now she is correct. Mostly.

He111 is now ready for masking and factory paint. Then weathering and detailing will follow.

Did you use marker to draw the panel lines ?

Actually, I did. It is a test because when I try to airbrush along the panel lines I tend to shake a little from a hand injury and the lines go all over.

I am traveling with the wife and kids until 7/15 so no progress until I get back. Currently in Richmond, VA, until Thursday morning and then it's off to Peach Lake, NY, and then Manhattan. On the way home I will be stopping in D.C. to see the Smithsonian's aircraft exhibit at Udvar-Hazy and take LOTS of pictures.

I miss my plastic.

Also, when I get home I will have several new kits waiting:

Nebelwerfer with crew
28cm Swurfgerat 40 Auf G.W. H39 (Hotchkiss tank with rocket launchers on flanks)
Sturmgeschutz IV Late version
Jagdpanzer IV L/70 "Johann Huber" edition
Leoplod K5 railway gun
Type XXIII Coastal submarine
P-61B Black Widow
SdKfz 265 Kleiner Panzerbefehlswagen I Ausf B

PLUS I have negotiated a good deal on a 60cm Morser Karl-Gerat with its Munitions vehicle to be picked up at month's end.

All 1/32, of course. Where will I put it all?

UPDATE 7/25:

About finished with the exterior paint. The 111 will get a second, lighter top coat and all the tiny bits that usually break off will be painted. Then it will get sealed for decals and after that weathering. Almost done!
Image
Image
Image
Image

The Jagdpanther has its paint pretty much done, so it will get decals and all the small bits will get detail-painted, and then its weathered and done as well. Two down, 31 more to go! Then another round of building!
