Decided to do the MiG-3 next, possibly in this scheme:

Not the color I would have went with on the Beaufighter, but it does look good!

Good enuf reason, I actually don't have any night fighters myself, closest thing is my "sink the Bismarck" Swordfish, but I don't think it's quite a night fighter

Last shots of the Beaufighter before I get started on the Mig 3:

Pilot has a bushy brown 'stache if you can spot it:

If you are familiar with the early Revell kits you know there is almost 0 interior detail but I did try to paint mine up. However, you can see maybe 5% through those canopies, and its hanging from the ceiling anyway:
Image

I tried to simulate some weathering for the exhaust and places like the shell ejection ports; you should see some streaking. It's the same brown clay I used to simulate mud on the Kettenkrad:

Well, this Trumpeter kit is quite a change from all the old Revell kits I've been building. Everything fits together quite nicely. The only negative is one of the rods for the flaps was missing so I substituted a sewing needle of the approx size and length. It has also gone together very quickly - about 2 days into it so far. Once all the flap mechanisms are finished curing, I can attach the wings and remaining tailplane and do whatever sanding/filling is needed, and then off to masking for the exterior paint job.

I love my 1:32 MIG, I just wish it came with a pilot. Keep posting your builds, I'm just waiting till you build one that I haven't got to yet.

Forgot to take progress shots over the past month due to my wife having eye surgery and a cousin getting married, so I don't have pics of the masking.

Almost there. Finishing the spinner and props next. Actually going to spray on the stars rather than go with the decals - am making templates based on a tip off the internet. Once done, a little weathering and I start another one.

Colors may not be spot on, but I was working from conjecture based on arguments about interpretation of B&W photos so it is what it is.

Just needs the running lights glued on, the antenna painted, some exhaust and weathering and it is done.

No decals used on this model.

Hi Guys

This thread inspired me to start with some of my 1/32 kits :) It is amazing how relaxing it is sitting and enjoying the build :)

Prior to weathering and markings:

This started out as a 1950 Export Sedan. I had to change the bumpers to the "banana" style used during the war and remove all traces of chrome piping. Not seen in photo: I made a 3-spoke steering wheel and punched out the glove boxes on the dash as they had no covers at that time.

Progress has been slow; weather and other issues have gotten in the way.

Currently about to enter the weathering stage; decals applied and clear-coated.

Italian 109:

Finnish 109:

Bulgarian 109:

Got a base coat on the Sdkfz 232 and have attempted camo on the Ostwind and Panzerjager IV, but not sure I'm happy at this stage.

Done with the 109's finally. I found some errors I made, but I am still kind of relearning how to do everything and think I am much better than I was. Getting the hang of the airbrush, although I dropped it this time and wrecked the piece that protects the end of the needle - no idea how I managed not to destroy the needle as well. Feel I should have done a few more passes of RLM74 to bring out the color a bit more. Mottling is not easy if you've never done it before. Some decal errors - the Italian was from a Sky Models set that had very little in the way of instructions and some markings were VERY different than the ones in the Eagle Strike sets I used on the other two.

Overall, I am happy and unless one of you guys was to come by no one I know will be able to spot my errors. I know the 10-year-old next door won't. I now have to finish the vehicles I started and I will be back to planes. Leaning towards the Komet at the moment.

WARNING: Flash failure made the colors a bit off

Going for the "they dunked pole brushes in green paint and dabbed it on" effect

Toned down the color on the Pzjgr IV and the Ostwind

Great looking Monogram armor! I loved those kits when I was younger and the box art; that was long before the white boxes. Sadly many of those 1:32 kits met their fate on the July 4th's of my youth. :|
You did a very nice job on the 109's!!!
Hey, the VW looks sweet! I've got a 1:18 split window on my project list, just need time.
Its great to see guys are still building kits!

Thanks for the feedback. It's really appreciated.

I decided to hold off on the Komet because all the talk of the Corgi Mosquitos got me thinking about my Revell kit, so I went back to armor while I mull it over.

Had started a Tamiya Pz II ausf F with the Monogram kits but was not as far along with it, so decided to finish it. While down in Orlando I found an old 1/35 kit of a Bison I and decided, "why not?" So now I have these two in progress:

Image

Image

I bought the Pz II at Hobby Lobby with the 40% coupon for giggles as it came to about $9. I figured I could smuggle it in among my 21st/FOV 1/32 collection and no one I knew within my personal circle would ever know unless I told them. I'm sure even the guys more into the modern stuff here might have trouble figuring it was a "staggering" 0.5 inches too short for 1/32.

Anyway, working on these models has brought me to a decision: With the demise of 21C and the issues with the current FOV strategy, I have decided to slowly begin replacing my 1/32 with the 1/35 kit counterpart, but NOT for my aircraft, since these are still produced in 1/32 and I want a B17. I am essentially free from scale issues with this decision as all my aircraft are displayed "in-flight" and are far enough from my armor displays for people to really notice any difference. I can now collect more vehicles since 1/32 is dead for my purposes. What little Unimax has released in the past couple of years has been of no use to me. It has reached a point where I can effectively produce about as nice a vehicle for the money as FOV even though I'm doing the work. However, instead of being paid in money for my effort I'm paid in gum - I mean fun and pride in knowing "I did that". Assuming I don't do a crap job, although no one here has complained about what I've done so far so I think I can handle it.

So, what this means is that I will be relinquishing all my 1/32 in the foreseeable future as I acquire replacements. That will even mean the above 1/32 vehicle kits as they, too, are upgraded (downgraded?) I will obviously do the usual posting as things progress.

I am looking forward greatly...

TO MORE OF THIS FUN!!!!

Seriously, think about it:

When do YOU think FOV will come out with any of the vehicles I've posted above in 1/32, say in the next five years?

Let's not even get started with FOV aircraft releases.

What choice do I have?

Pzkpfw II ausf. F pretty much done. May do a touch more weathering; maybe not. Went for an early color scheme, circa 1940.
