Lindberg Model Kits at Tuesday Morning

Post by PAK38 » Sat Jul 14, 2012 8:28 pm

I got a 1/72 Schwimmwagen/kettenkrad combo kit and two 1/35 Sd. Kfz 222 kits today from Tuesday Morning for $4.99 each. They also had a Scharnhorst kit, a Corsair, and some modern jet fighter kits there.

I needed some wheels/tires to convert one of the 21st Century Maultiers into a standard wheeled truck and the Sd. Kfz 222 kit has what I need. The 222 kit is a little larger than the 21st Century 222 offerings and is sort of a hoot with two undersized crew which, if placed, will never be seen inside the hull and two undersized identical crewmen with field glasses standing in the turret. The 2cm cannon and MG34 included are very simplified and toylike. I'm going to build one of these kits as a Sd. Kfz. 223 without the turret.

The Schwimmwagen/Kettenkrad combo kit in 1/72 is interesting because of its rarity. Very small in this scale, the "Rabbit" should look at home staged with my 1:72 German aircraft. Or not. It's a small project that could be fun and shouldn't take too long to complete.

Thanks for the info. I was actually in Tuesday Morning today and did not see these kits. Will have to be on the lookout.

Hmmm... Seems like Tuesday Morning is getting in lots of new stuff again. Ollies Outlet had a ton of Lindberg plane kits for about a year now and some are like what you're describing. Lindberg has been using the same molds for some of their kits since the 1960's. They were always of poor quality and toy-like but offered some obscure subjects not unlike the old Aurora line.

Yeah, we have a salvage store here which had a huge pile of Lindberg's a while back. Quite a few 1/48 pieces in our bunch, including the He-111.

They were my least favorite kits as a youngster because the parts usually fit like crap.

I was able to find a 222 yesterday. It's actually not a bad model at all. I put it together and was pleasantly surprised over the scale. The figures are certainly tiny, but the vehicle itself works well for 1/32 scale. I'll post a picture or two when I finish painting. This in DAK tan makes a great Rat Patrol vehicle.

Another Tuesday Morning in my area had some of the same Lindberg kits plus a 1/72 8-ton Sd. Kfz. 7/1 half track. The same bad figures as the others, but the half track body and running gear look pretty good for $4.99. It comes with decals for 5th SS Panzer "Wiking" and 21st Panzer, no DAK palms, however.

I'm not sure I'll install the quad 2cm flak that comes with it as that looks more toylike. The quad 2cm is of the standalone type which can be removed from the vehicle and used for on-the-ground installation. Pretty neat.

I'm hoping for a few additional 1/35 or 1/32 scale models - perhaps they'll get some more. They seem to be pursuing the military market as of late.

check the one and only store in my area. Had a few kits, but I was looking for the Pogo. dif find a polar Lights Pteranodon for $4.98.

best find was a 1/32 scale FW190 from 21st century toys. It was the only one in the store, and he employee stocking the isle, said it was the only one she remembers seeing come in.

Very strange. It was marked as "Originally $39.99 now $9.99".

About a month ago the TM here each received 8 P-51 ShangriLa and 8 Red 19 FW190.
Grognard, if you want can check if any of the Pogo kits remain

Just picked up a "POGO" and a 21C/ALLGO P-51 "Shangrila".
I think there was one "POGO" left and (2) Shangrila P-51s and (3) Fw-190 Red 19s.

Ironically, the store just opened this week on Tuesday morning.

Stopped by two Tuesday Mornings on the way home yesterday. Both were out of the 21st C. Mustangs and Focke-Wulfs, even a few really bad QC ones I left behind earlier. One had about a dozen asst. Lindberg kits, the other only two. :? Didn't see anything else new or exciting. :(
