What's BBI's future in 1/32?

Post by RAD 2112 » Mon Sep 05, 2011 5:38 am

I noticed that BBI has been recently producing 1/18 aircraft again (F-16, BF-109).
Has there been any word on on their 1/32 line?

I thought the Wildcat, Dauntless and Phantom were exceptional.
It would be a shame if we didn't see another release from them.

RAD212:

I heard from a reliable source that BBI will be releasing more 1/32 models....but I don't know if they will be repaints of the Phantom, Dauntless and Wildcat or maybe the F-104 that was announced but never released.

I'd welcome repaints. I'd also love to see the F-104.

Repaints of the awesome F-4 would sell.

Positive of this.

Dauntless, and Wildcat would be tougher, as the PTO aircraft tend to have very similar camo, and less to differentiate between aircraft. Although they could probably do at least 4-5 and collectors would buy.

Phantom has endless possibilities.

I agree, the 1:32 Phantom would be a great seller...Hard to even find one on ebay now, and I've seen one go for close to $150.00!
They could follow 4D Visions' lead on their 1:32, F14, with, so far, three different versions!
Should be a lower price point than 4D's, as all the internal stuff wouldn't be there!
But, like others here have said, I'll buy any repaint BBI does, as long as I can, in 1:32 and 1:18...

$225

Shows the interest is definitely there.

Glad I picked up a spare when they were released.

If any of you guys are desperate for the Phantom, there's a BBI 1/32 F4J on E-bay UK (Not mine or anything to do with me) # 250892682941 - it probably works out about $220 or offers, plus postage

I got a response from BBI on Facebook.
They will be making more 1/32 aircraft, they just need to pick a plane.
I suggested a P-38 or a Ki-84. ;)

If you want Japanese fighters, then yes, a Ki-84 Frank would be excellent, or the Ki-61 Tony, if it's twin prop, for me - why not go all the way to B-25 or B26 or the Mosquito.....

...I'll take any of their repaints, especially the SBD. I did buy a Phantom and would get another if offered though.

If they want to continue that US Navy WWII theme though, it would be cool to finally get a 1:32 Hellcat, Avenger, or Helldiver we don't have to build and paint ourselves for generally high priced model kits.

I think it's too much to ask to get anyone to make any Imperial Japanese Navy aircraft besides the Zero. So many cool ones in the Dive Bomber, Torpedo, Floatplanes we will most likely never see in plastic pre built. :?

But hey I wouldn't gripe if they switched to an Army theme if I could finally get a P-40 (Warhawk not Tomahawk that is)

Huh? I am confused about your Zero statement.
The Ki-84 is not an IJN plane. It's IJA. ...and it's not a "Zero", it's a "Frank"
It's like comparing Hellcat to a Thunderbolt.

I will agree that there are other Japanese planes that should be made as well.
That being said, when is someone going to make some Russian aircraft?

Apologies for the confusion. Didn't mean to sound like I was referring to your aircraft suggestion of a "Frank", Rad2112. Of course that would be desirable.

Just the fact that that no one would possibly do anything more from the IJN, which is really what I want. All we've gotten is the "Zero" from 21stC (which was IJA too)

You ever see the Admiral prototype "Kate"? That woulda been awesome!
http://www.sshqdb.com/32/index.php?cat=39

Heck the "Kate", "Val", "Judy", "Jill", "Rufe", etc. etc. haven't even made it to model kits yet in 1:32, but I am slightly more optimistic there it might happen.
Hasegawa just came out with the "Jack" (Raiden) after all.

I'll take anything from the IJN or IJA.

Wonder what that will do to the value of the old Revell kits? I was lucky enough to grab one at about the same price the Hasegawa kit will be priced at, but now this means I could get a second for a different paint scheme without busting my bank account.

I've seen it as low as $52 pre-order, due in October. I want the Revell one too, because I think it was you that told me it has retractable landing gear. (21stC play feature ha!)

I haven't even scraped up enough cash for an HE-111 yet, but I'm selling off all my massive Star Wars collection so maybe. :?

That was me re the landing gear. I'm hoping the He-111 will be under the Xmas tree for me so my wife will have to do the scraping.

I'd pick up the Kate in a heartbeat. Considering the prototype was available in 2007, I doubt it's going to be released now....

That Kate is awesome isn't it? It looks huge when you see the person behind it. The wings look very large compared to say a Dauntless or even an Avenger. Must've needed it for plenty of lift to hall those torpedoes and bombs and make up for the underpowered engine. A Val is kinda along those lines with large wings too from looking at gburch's computer renderings.

We'll never see it in pre-built, but 1:32 is catching on in the model world, so it's not improbable there. I'm hoping one way or the other.

Still hoping that BBI will give us something new, though I'd wager it's going to be a US Navy plane if anything. Surprise us with the old guppy looking TBD Devastator in Midway colors...yeah right.

The Kate looks good and would go well with the bbi Dauntless, even better if it had folding wings 8)
