What's up with the silver 109? I didn't get a chance to read the info on it. Seemed odd to see one in silver.

After doing some cursory searching a while back in regards to JG 300 and Kurt Gabler, I think the plane may have actually been used as a "Wilde Sau" night fighter. The "Wilde Sau " aircraft were intended to simply fly in the direction of a city under attack, acquire targets visually, attack and stay engaged as long as possible to shoot down bombers. Pilots were simply told to bail out of the planes if they ran out of fuel or couldn't find their airfield. As the planes were nightfighters, the typical cammo scheme may not have been needed as the plane wasn't being flown during the daylight...

Either way, here is a little bit about the unit's history (its part of a review for a book about the squadron). It mentions Gabler flying a Bf-109G-6, but not the one 21c replicated. Still, it gives some indication of what the aircraft in the squadron were used for and perhaps why the 21c '109 was painted the way it was.

Mg42 is essentially correct that this particular 109 was stripped of its paint as an experiment in aerodynamics to see if the 109 could be improved..

Very cool! I may have to grab one of these unique 109's! Of course the real reason is that the Germans thought all those shiny natural finish Mustangs and Thunderbolts were sexy and wanted in on the action!

That's pretty much the idea.. The Germans thought that the NMF might increase the 109s speed as it did on the Allied planes.. Less paint weight=more speed..

Not sure if this is new but I just picked up a S6 Me 109E at Walmart. Not a real attractive scheme but something I don't have so I picked it up.

2./JG 27 Black 3 Gazala, Libya 1941.

SR 200 WM in Ocala had 4 Italian Folgore/Stuka dogfight sets. After a lengthy inspection which found 3 sets to be stinkburgers I found a set that was 99.9% perfect. I've been wanting a Folgore but I thought I would sell the Stuka. Once it was out of the box however I fell in love and it is now hanging, divebombing some carpet fuzz. The Folgore Lucchini scheme with the different camo on the replaced wind is really cool. Now I just need a Veltro.

I took a trip over the river into New York State where I perused a TRU and Wally World (They're few in far between in these parts ). I was hoping that either store would have the Macchi/Stuka two pack, but alas, all TRU had was three P-51B/C's, a 262, and many of FOV's newest armor releases. Wally World was no different. Just three Corsair/Zero packs (already got one), some playsets, two 109F's, a P-40B and some 1/144th stuff. Not wanting to go home empty handed, I picked up the P-40 (After politely asking a little kid to move after he decided to sit directly in front of the plane playing with some electronic toy.)

Tommorow, I'm just going to swing over to BCA and order an Macchi online.

I found one of those the other day as well in Illinois - I think it is new.

I found the new P-51B/ME-262 Dogfight pack today. I had to go through four of them to find one where the P-51 had a decent paintjob with little overspray on the stripes and no serious gashes or scratches on the paint. The ME-262s in all the boxes looked great!

Same here, found some at 1 WM in NW AR. The Mustangs left something to be desired but the 262's were all nice.

The Mustang/Me-262 sets have shown up here in Tulsa also.. All 3 looked okay, no real problems that I could see..

Finally found an Otto Schultz North Africa 109F-4 that wasn't all scratched to hell with crooked top wing balkenkreuz. Very nice scheme and cool sand filter.

Now where the hell is that P-51/262 dogfight pack???

I found a "Berlin Express" P-51 at the TRU in Visalia, Ca while out on a road trip. Its a long ways from my area, but I check the store every once in a great while to see if they've gotten anything different than my two local stores.

Its a new P-47, "Evie," flown by Lt. George W. Orange of the 510 FS of the 405th FG based at Ophoven, Belgium during the winter of 1944/1945. It has some of the sexiest nose art I've yet seen on a 21c aircraft in any scale

Man that's nice. He must have been one hell of a train buster judging from those kill markings. I noticed too that the nazi flag has an X instead of a swastika. Should be an easy fix for the accuracy nuts among us.

Its been out since August, or July, I can't remember exactly

s4 version of 9./jg54. Box says 7./jg54 but all of the reference material I have shows the red devil was 9. and the plane should also have a green heart on the fuselage below the cockpit. Not sure who flew it. It was released this fall. One of my all time favorite 21st C paint schemes.

I found the new 32x FW-190D9 repaint, "Yellow 15" at the Clovis, CA TRU. They also had in the repaint for the Jagdtiger German tank destroyer, in the green on tan cammo. I picked up that armored vehicle, which comes with no figures and a striking paintscheme!

I finally broke down and bought the dogfight set with the Italian stuka and macchi- only one walmart in my area has the set- about 8 of them- there was nothing else to buy. I did find the Evie P-47 at a local TRU, only two of them on the overstock shelf- what else comes with the evies in the box?

The store where I found the "Evie" P-47s also had the "Berlin Express" P-51Bs. I am now thinking that TRU does not put out all they have in back at once, perhaps waiting for the shelves to clear. This may be why it takes some items a long time to get out on the shelves.
