Wing Scale 1/32 B-17G kit

Post by Airacobra » Thu Jan 06, 2011 1:57 pm

I know this is old news but I found this link with some great pics of Wing Scale's 1/32 B-17G kit. There is also a 1/32 B-25, B-26 and P-61 on the way. Plus, this site says the price is not expected to exceed $250. Pretty good deal considering the size and detail this kit offers.

I think this was posted already, but it really is a fantastic-looking kit. With an airbrush and a lot of aluminum or sillver paint, it should not be too hard of a build, either. Famous last words, I know

I'd like to know what sort of interior detail it's going to have and where I can track down about 10 loose 21c 32x pilot figures to go inside it 8)

I can't wait to see what some of the master model makers do with this kit with an in depth review on it too.
Hopefully they make it in enough numbers so some of us can wait a little to buy one. It is after all just about the price or a little more than a JSI F-14.

I also hope they make it with interchangeable gear up or down would be cool. I'd like to hang one (or two) up in flight being attacked and have a landed option too. That's probably too much to ask though. :?

Someone has lots of table space, I see.

I am excited about the B-17 and P-61. Here is a link that has some good pics showing the level of detail the B-25 will have. Looks really nice.

Those look to be really nice, and pretty big in 1/32. Especially that B-17.

A good modeler could do something very special with one of those kits.

Would be good to see one completed.

This looks like it will be amazing.
I checked with my local hobby store this weekend and they only intend to get
a couple into stock as apparently the price (and they aren't sure of the exact s.p.) will deter all but the brave (or mad)
Not sure which category I fall into, but I have asked to reserve one, so now when it finally arrives I'm going to have to decide which particular aircraft I model, - the staggered waist gun positions and Cheyenne tail will narrow the choices, but it's still going to be a hard call.

This guy has some cool schemes he's done. They're only side profiles though, but a lot of ideas.

Interesting I noticed there are only B-17E's and F's for the PTO. Did the B-17G ever make it over to the Pacific, or did the B-24 and B-29 take it's place by then because of greater range?

I think I'll opt for an OD green scheme myself. I'm sure Wingscale will offer a couple in each box, like they are for the B-25.

I believe you are correct and that the B17 was phased out of normal squadron/group service in the PTO in favour of the B24 and B29 prior to introduction of the G.

Here's where my 'which aircraft to choose' dilemma kicks in;
For a Fort with staggered guns and Cheyenne tail, I think that NMF is the correct colour, as camo paint had been discontinued by the time these mods were applied to production blocks, so unless there was retro-fitting of both features to earlier o.d. aircraft, mine will have to be a silver finish.
I may be wrong about this, as my references all in storage, so happy to be told otherwise.

I'm probably going to go for 447BG, so Milk Wagon 4337756 is one option for NMF.
Scheherazade 4231225 was o.d. and had a silver Cheyenne tail fitted but not sure yet if waist was staggered.

Damn.

All those ringtones on offer, and not one suitable for installing in a Fortress 132.

And like I so wanted one........................not.
