just how big is this model in this scale?

Closest I've had is the original Joe Raven, and IIRC it wasn't even that much..but then the dollar was worth more in the 80s

Gonna be a big un' that's for sure. Just doing some rough calculations... the real SR-171 measures 107 feet in length, that would give you a 1/72 scale Blackbird that would be somewhere around 15 inches in length. This is by no means exact, but it will give a general idea. It's a long sucker that's for sure, but I agree $150 is a lot of coin.

This is the only model I have considered buying in 1:72. Flying Mule lists the size as 17.75" long and 9.25" wide, price $149.99.

I have all four Century Wings SR-71's, with the fifth on pre-order.

"Ichi Ban", "Rapid Rabbit" [Playboy emblem], "SR-71B trainer, and "NASA" version.With the red colored BB version on pre-0rder.






I am a big fan of Century Wings, and have almost all their models.And the SR-71 is easily my favourite.

SR-71 just looks ultra fast, and with its all black paint, looks even nastier.And still the fastest "jet" ever.So I have always loved the plane.

The "Ichi Ban" was the first release, and my very first pre-order.When I got it, I was very impressed.The detail was typically great Century Wings quality, and it was a good size as well.And it was a pretty heavy model also.



The only real complaint against this model, is that the join line between the nose section, and the start of the wings, is noticeable.You can see it in the picture above.

Other than that,it is a fantastic model.The only model that I have on permanent display.

The $150 price tag may seem high, but it is definitely worth it, in my opinion.Plus, like all Century Wings models, limited production runs."Ichi Ban' was 3000 units.But the other versions are 1000- 1500,IIRC.

And once sold out from the dealers, these SR-71's only appreciate in value.

One point.Get the A version first.The SR-71B is a trainer version, with a large extra cockpit right behind the original cockpit.Kind of ruins the lines of this ultra sleek aircraft.

I did Snake. I ordered the 71A, though I would love to have a NASA bird I just don't care for the SR-71 "Camel".
