1:32 WWII US Fighter Aircraft Not Made Yet

Post by Dauntless » Sun May 16, 2010 9:24 am

This sort of poll has been done in the 1:18 threads, but I can't find any in the 1:32 area.

If 21C would have continued with their 32X aircraft, or likewise BBI, or if All-go or any other company decides to take up the plastic prebuilt aircraft again, what U.S. fighter aircraft would you like to see made that haven't been made yet?

Some of these have been made in 1:18, or even 1:48 but either they or their variants never made it to the 1:32 (plastic prebuilt) realm.

Minor areas on these aircraft can be tooled to make the different variations on them like the engine scoops etc. on the P-38E to the larger ones on the J.
Likewise minor modifications to the P-40 (the cockpit canopy) Kittyhawk or Warhawk can give us different versions etc. The F6F-3 to 3N radar version Hellcat, P-47 C/D Razorbacks, and the P-38 C-Q versions etc.
21C already did this on the BF-109F-G, Zero and P-51 B/C, and 1:48 scale P-40 E/N to give us a variety of the same basic airframe so we know it's possible.

All are well known popular aircraft and probably would have been no-brainers to see manufactured, with plenty of options for many different paint schemes.

I think that the British aircraft deserve their own poll. Likewise any other allied or axis aircraft left.

Please elaborate on what paint schemes, including Lend-Lease, captured markings etc. you'd like.

The P-38 is one aircraft I'm surprised 21c never attempted in 1:32 scale as they had a great 1:18 scale tooling for it.

Assuming they could get a committed market, I could easily see BBI doing the F6F. It would fit right into their current lineup of WWII US Navy aircraft and they also have the 1:18 tooling to base their design on.

Unimax has already made a 1:32 scale P-39 for the Forces of Valor lineup. See one for sale here:
http://www.badcattoys.com/pai1foofva80.html
It is available in two different US paintschemes at an affordable price (all things considered). While the earlier FOV aircraft had terrible-looking tooling, that is not the case on the P-39. It has smooth panel lines and looks the part. The model has diecast construction and lots of moving parts, including opening engine panels, opening cockpit doors, movable control surfaces, and landing gear that can be displayed up or down.

As tman has pointed out,the P-39 has already been done.

Given the choices,I would have to go with the P-38.

Just a great looking aircraft, with lots of distinctive schemes to choose from.

Would also like to see a Typhoon/Tempest in 1/32. 8)

Guess I'll vote too.

P-40 E/N
In Aleutian Tiger of course would be S1, followed by some more awesome schemes there are so many.

The Airacobra by Forces of Valor is diecast and is probably the only one we'll ever see, but I just couldn't exclude it, for those that may prefer a plastic 21C 32X Extreme Wings type plane.

There's some P-39 fans in here, I think. :)

I was hoping BBI would follow their 1/32 SBD Dauntless and F4F Wildcat with a TBF Avenger, but they had other plans....or no plans at all, as the case may be.

Yeah, (tried to include the C's can't edit poll planes titles) but the D's were Razorbacks too.

....uh, once again this is for plastic prebuilt, no diecast included here in this poll.
Thanks for voting.

Like my 1:48 P-40E too.
Revell, had the Aleutian tiger with slightly different nose art. Even though it's an old type model kit, at least it has retractable landing gear so you can display it on the ground or in flight (this is important for us 21C fans)
Problem is they are pricey with those decals.

I was thinking about getting a Revell re-issue which aren't too expensive but weren't reissued in Aleutian markings anymore and buying the decals aftermarket. I believe somebody makes them in 1:32.

If I was AllGo, or one of the other 1:32 pre-built companies and had the capability (the molds) a simple fighter with many repaint choices like the late model P-40's would have been a smart choice right out of the gate in either scale.

It looks like the Lightning is the front runner here so far. Got no problem with that at all. Start out with the earlier models P-38 in olive drab. Pick a good scheme. Maybe the Yamamoto mission. Run all the later model J's the same schemes as all the 1:18's built by 21C. (plus Marge)
Guarantee I'd try to buy every one made.

Looks like I might have something different to do with my second P-38 kit.
