Creating a modern day fuel truck

Post by ketelone » Sun Dec 14, 2008 5:37 pm

I'm contemplating modifying an FOV HIMARS into a fuel truck. I've been thinking about this for a while. Think about it. Most military vehicles, especially armor, consume vast quantities of fuel....... Therefore, a 'gas' truck is needed.
At most retailers you can pick up a HIMARS. Remove the rocket launching system and put in its place a 'tanker' from the New Ray tandem tanker vehicle. The tail 'tanker' is just about the right size. A little modification and some paint, and you've got a fuel truck. With the cost of a New Ray 1/32 truck and an adventure grade HIMARS, you cuold arguably have two tankers... What do you think?
As I write this entry I realize this item might be more appropriate for the Customs section but we need more vehicles of different types.

It's on my list, but I really need to finish up some existing projects...

So, do you think this is possible with the FOV Deuce 1/2?

It's WWII, but I wouldn't mind one of those.

If you could find a small enough 'tank.' The 'tank' from the NewRay is too large for the deuce. It does work for the HIMAR....

CMK has a kit for a fuel truck, one for a 2.5ton and then for some modern truck in 1/35...it's a conversion for existing truck kits, so I don't know if you could use it or not.

I went out today hoping Target had its FOV stock on sale.... No luck. I did purchase an additional HIMAR and I completed my modern day fuel truck. It looks good.
Since I now have the trailer portion left from the fuel tanker tandem, I'm debating whether to utilize the rocket portion from the HIMAR vehicle and customize the trailer into a HIMAR trailer. It actually fits nicely and it wouldn't look bad......

Sorry. I tried to put up some pictures, but I proved once again how tecnologically retarded I am...... You wouldn't believe how long it took me how to figure out how to post entries on this forum....
