FOV 1/32 Deuce and Elefant pics...

Post by ostketten » Fri Oct 24, 2008 2:21 pm

A few people have been asking for "out of the box" pics of the new FOV Deuce truck and Elefant SPG, so here ya go. They ran me $54 each including UPS delivery from Foxhole toys. Considering that these are the only models of their respective type available in this scale at any price, I personally think they are worth it. For anyone who is holding out for an action grade of either model, I hope your area Target stores have a better track record for stocking FOV than stores in my AO, otherwise you could be waiting a long time... like forever... Hope you find the pics useful. 8)

Hey guys, I think I may have made THE very first Deuce and a half "custom" LOL  I repainted the top, and I think it looks much more like real canvas now, which tends to fade very quickly in the sun and weather anyway. Click the pic to enlarge...

Looks great! Though they did cut some corners it does look pretty darn good. I agree about canvas fading fast, the lot that I've seen is almost always faded. Almost every canvas item I have, even small ones, is faded. I love the stuff though, it's good against water and I use an old medic bag to carry my school stuff.

The Elefant could have done much better though. As much was hyped about it, regardless of price, the Deuce looks better to me. Although I'll one day get an Elefant, I really think they could have stepped it up from a "par" piece to a great one.

* Deuce canvas paint custom

Post by MG-42 » Fri Oct 24, 2008 6:50 pm

* Simple but effective. I'd planned to paint mine like that myself. For some odd reason though , I may just leave it alone.

Thanks for the compliments fellas. :) As repaints go this was about as simple as it gets, but I do think it improves the look of the Deuce. 8) The GMC 2 1/2 ton truck was supplied by the thousands to the Soviet Union as part of Lend Lease during WWII, and I'm seriously considering getting another and doing a basic Red Army repaint, it should be relatively easy to do. A "Katyusha" rocket launcher deuce-and a-half custom is another possibility, but would likely be more of a challenge since it would probably involve some scratchbulding, that might be something for some of our more talented and creative members to consider doing.

Nice work, looks much better. :D

Before it looked too shiny, like it was soaked.

A Katyusha would be quite an undertaking!
Do they have a kit?
IF they do just strip off the bed and mount the framework.

There are several 1/35 kits available, but I've studied this a bit and unfortunately it doesn't look like you could simply strip down the truck and mount the 1/35 kit rocket launcher assembly, at least not if you wanted it to be remotely accurate. Aside from the scale difference of the launcher rails, (which I think would be significant) I believe it would involve some modifications and scratchbuilt parts for the chassis as well. OTOH, you could just mount it and not worry about any of that, and it would probably still look pretty cool. 8)

Awesome! I'll have to keep a lookout for it in my area. I've only been seeing modern armor in the new boxes and that only at one Target store of the 6 in my area.

Great job with the canvas!

Does the canvas top come off so it can be open bed?

FOV 1/32 Deuce and a half at Target

Post by Airman001 » Mon Dec 08, 2008 12:59 pm

Last Saturday, while in the Target Superstore in Colo Spgs, CO, I found several 2 1/2 ton trucks in the Action series priced at under $23.00. When I checked with the Service Desk, they confirmed this price. So I brought two trucks. So you have no problems with the Action Series, I would check your Target Superstore and save some hard earned cash.

This weekend one Target has a truck they would not sell me despite all my attempts using logic and "customer service" arguments. No dice. Found two more at another Target at the $24.99 price and had to grab one.

I found the Deuce 1/2 today. Nice, not as detailed paint wise as say a 21'st Opel Halftrack, but nice still. The only one made in 1:32 that I know of, so I'm happy to have found it.

Wish somebody would have made this in 1:18

In action grade the Elefant does not come with a figure. Does anyone know if the Enthusiast version does?

I was looking at one in my local HobbyTown and I can say I recall a figure. I remember the cat and the other little doodads, but a guy? No.

I hand painted multiple Marx seated GI's and sat just one on each side of the rear of the truck and it appears the duece is loaded with troops.

Does the Deuce have much/any metal or is it all plastic?
Thanks,
Todd
