I visited some Walmarts north of Los Angeles and I saw some of the 1/48 and the 1/144 planes. The 1/48s look very impressive in the box, but I didn't buy any. Also saw the tiger vs hellcat and scout car vs halftrack combos and one of the dogfight plane combos. Didn't see any more of the new DAK Panzer IIIs or the Panzer IV. Walmart is in the process of expanding their toy sections for the x-mas season and there were a lot of holes.

available in Omaha

I picked up the P51B at the WalMart in West Omaha for $9.97. Not bad, but the wing-to-fuselage fit could be a lot better.

The Washington and Allen Road Peoria, Illinois Walmarts had the 1/48th today. I picked up both. At first I wasn't, after getting them home and assembling I wish I hadn't.
The P51 wing to fuselage fit sucks mine wouldn't stay without copious amounts of super glue. The canopy fit also sucks. I had to remove the windshield and shave some off to get it to sit properly so the rest of the canopy would fit. Forget to have the canopy open position. The closed landing gear doors will not sit flat. The tailwheel broke at first setting. NO PILOT!!!!
The Me109 is a little better but I thought I would break it in two to get the wings on. NO PILOT!!!!

I just found these at the Madera, Ca Wal Mart. I ultimately didn't pick them up as I really don't need to get into another scale.

The P-51B and ME-109G-10 looked awesome and the ones I saw had crisp paintjobs and were very well detailed. The price is very good considering what some of the more professional 1:48 scale planes go for.

Walmart shelf

Post by eagle_28752 » Wed Aug 16, 2006 4:44 pm

I visited the Walmart store located in Marion NC. I came across the 1/48 Dogfight plance combo, also the German Tiger and US Hellcat tanks and German Scoutcar and German Halftrack combo. I purchase same and added to my collection. Last week I found the 1/18 M-48 Patton Tank and US M151 Jeep . I been very lucky so far. Still hunting for the 1/18 Avenger.

Just stopped by Area21. The pics are now up-dated.

I bought one of the current 109G's in 1/48 just yesterday. The paint is very done well, but I went through five or six at three stores just to find a good one.

The main issues on almost every one I saw were either way too wide a seam on the engine cowling (top) or a seriously messed-up gap in the windscreen/canopy junction. In fact, two 109's, had the windscreen portion glued on crooked.

Check 'em carefully!

Yeah this first batch of 1:48 is not 100% perfected just yet. 21st is in the process of making the needed changes.

Also sorry about the old pics. I made a mistake in the link that night. It is fixed now though!

Just saw a lone 1/48 G-10 today(Still no 32x Stuka/Corsairs) in Titusville, about 10min north of me.

Nothing new at all in Cocoa/PSJ...but WM brought out a bunch of 1/18 figures including BOB Panzer Crew and Soldaten, Marines etc.

Thanks TKO.. Hey, I am kinda curious why they chose a PTE Mustang when they haven't produced a Zero, unless that is in the works???

I found these the other day and I absolutely love them. I have been buying the 32x planes to hang up in my classroom to go with all of the 1/48 models I have built and hung up over the years. But, these are great to hang up on the ceiling in the classroom. Indeed, the quality is not the best, but I have a soft spot for 1/48 as I remember building many a model with my father at the basement workbench as a child. I hope 21st keeps on with this scale. Though, for only 5 dollars more, I think the 32x is still the best deal that 21st has going in the realm of aircraft. Don't get me wrong, I am an XD man at heart, I have a soft spot for the new 1/48. But when it comes to bang for your buck, the 32x is where it is at.
