Hello all,
I'm about to launch into a project with 1/48 scale aircraft and I know how hard to find and/or EXPENSIVE trucks and jeeps are to obtain in true 1/48. My question is, if you had to choose between 1/50 or 1/43, which would you choose? I have some Solido trucks already in 1/50 but they just look so small.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hobby master makes 1/48 scale jeeps and trucks and they are reasonably priced.. Tamiya makes tanks and almost all types of vehicles in 1/48 but you'll have to build them.

if you are looking for a good variety of prebuilts you're going to have to choose between 1/50 and 1/43 as not al that much is available in 1/48, whereas there is good variety in the other scales, especially 1/43.
1/50 is far closer scale wise to 1/48 than 1/43 is. 1/50 is only about 4% too small. Noticable but not really all that significant. The reason why 1/50 vehicles look so small to you is because, relative to aircraft, cars and trucks are really small. It's surprising but a fact.
1/43 is about 12% too big, compared to 1/48. Very significant. It's about the same as the size difference between 1/16 and 1/18. However, if that doesn't bother you much it would have the advantage of offering models which are a little bigger and probably more detailed and thus more enjoyable to look at.
So if you want as close to scale purity as you can, 1/50 is definitely the way to go. If you want models which are bigger and nicer to look at, then go with 1/43. Since all the vehicles will be in scale with each other (except for the aircraft), it's not really all that bad either way you go. Just decide which you will like better.

There are quite a few armor and other models coming out in 1:43rd these days and even though I might like all of my models to be exactly the same scale, I am flexible when it comes to whether it's 1:43rd, 1:48th or 1:50th. Some of the recent Eaglemoss stuff in 1:43rd, while needing code 3 work---in my opinion--- make for rather nice replicas.

I've got a couple of the Eaglemoss 1:43 scale vehicles displayed with my 1:48 items. They are a bit large, but not so much that they appear way out of scale. The Eaglemoss items are decent and affordable. I also have some 21c 1:48 armor and vehicles as well as a few of the Hobby Master Jeeps. Really should have gotten one of the HM 1:48 scale Sherman tanks when they were readily available!
