It has extended landing gear and apparently no pilots.

pilots i can live without, fixed u/c though......pass. At their prices that's not acceptable. Plus, considering the problems with their Osprey it may not even be that good of a model.

Easy Model is supposed to be producing one this year. It too will have no pilots and fixed u/c but probably be pretty accurate and cost $20 shipped. It will be plastic not diecast, but i'm fine with that.

AF1 are line Gaincorp. Nebulus accuracy, fixed undercarriage and high price tag. I note also it says "authentic markings"....not "pad printed markings" like usual in Mule's ads. I wonder if they use decals like Gaincorp used to.....in fact AF1 might be Gaincorp reborn.

The Mule add has a general description of AF1 models with gear fixed.
Pete's shows it with gear up though. I'm hoping it has both options when it comes out, but no pilots is kind of a bummer.

Like to see the actual model before I buy one. If it's gear down only with no pilots I'd probably buy the Easy Model instead for that price.

I'm really excited by even the prospect of a 1:72 P-61 in diecast. Its been far too long in coming. Still, I want to see actual production pictures before ordering given some of the above concerns...

It would be a bummer if it had fixed extended gear, however, the description of the AF1 P-61 on The Flying Mule site says it has interchangeable gear parts... They specifically noted that the AF1 Osprey does not have interchangeable gears, but have not stated that for the P-61. Hopefully that means something positive.

Personally, I would rather have a diecast 1:72 scale P-61 than a plastic version. Easy Model is OK for some aircraft and is certainly affordable, but they tend to lack a lot of detail. Their large 1:48 scale planes just seem bland. You can see right into the cockpit and there's almost nothing there. Their P-61 will almost certainly be the same...

Mule has changed their discription since i first read it.....the model will be coming with interchaneable u/c. Still wondering about the markings though...they better be printed. In this day and age decals are unacceptable....even $10 easy models have nicely printed markings.

That's good news. Most of the negative comments around the forums were of the landing gear down only.

Decals on the other hand, don't think I like that.
The regular edition and the signature edition will have nose art babes with different colored dresses, white and blue. Wonder how they'll pull that off without using decals?

how are they going to pull that off and be historically accurate?....did the real plane have different coloured dresses on it at different times?

Gaincorp used decals on their models....and without fail they were crooked, even upside down, some in the wrong place etc. I don't know if the AF1 Osprey has decals or printed markings....if we can find that out then we'll know what's in store for on the Black Widow.

has there been a definitive answer yet as to whether the AF1 Black Widow is going to have fixed or optional undercarriage? Jumblies is now reporting that it's fixed down. Mule still says optional.

The photos I've seen with the crew posing by the nose art seem to suggest that the blouse is relatively dark (i.e. blue as opposed to white). So is the Maj. Kendall saying "Lady in the Dark" had two nose art versions----a blue blouse and a white blouse?

hm......looks pretty good. Not sure it's $90 good but good. At least we now know it does have u/c options and also the explanation for the 2 blouse colours.

thanks for post D.

Yeah, not too bad from the looks of it.

It's good to see some other company besides the big two make larger 1:72 WWII aircraft.

my big debate will be if it's worth getting instead of the upcoming Easy Model. The EM i'll be able to get for $20 or less, shipped. The AF1 is going to be over $100 shipped. It's bound to be nicer but that much nicer? I don't care that it's diecast, plastic is fine by me.
