Tamiya Masterworks 1:48 P-47D Razorback

Post by donnieboy » Thu Jul 21, 2005 8:56 pm

Kudos to smh_1021 for clueing us in about the new Tamiya Masterworks diecast 1:48 tanks. I was perusing the Tamiya U.S.A. website which smh_1021 was kind enought to provide, when I noticed that in the Masterworks Collection section where the new diecast 1:48 tanks are listed, Tamiya also lists a 1:48 diecast P-47D Razorback with an Indian Chief on the cowling. It is item# 21034 and will retail for about $140. Check it out! Could this be the start of a new 1:48 Warbird line from Tamiya? It would be a much-needed kick in the pants for those pokey puppies, Amour Coll./FM and Eagles Intnernational.

Thanks 'donnieboy' - actually, I have the 1/48th scale P-47 and the model is well-done with detailed parts and paint (and subtle weathering). I am actually at the DX05 (Dragon Expo) convention and visited the Tamiya display area - I specifically asked about the Masterworks line(s) and the representative indicated that many additional items in both the 1/48th and 1/35th scale product lines can be expected, as well as aircraft and armor. I saw the StugIII, the Hetzer, and the Sherman in the 1/48th scale (as well as the Tiger I, which I already have) - was even more impressed.

And .... the Jagdpanther in 1/35th scale was equally as impressive. As an FYI, the P-47 Thunderbolt is actually the 2nd aircraft offered in the Masterworks line - a 1/48th scale Me-262 (with the see-thru) fuselage was offered a few months ago and is also quite well done.

Tamiya Masterworks 1:48 P-47D Razorback

Hey smh_1021:
Thanks so much for the intel from Dragon Expo. It's nice to know the new Tamiya Masterworks 1:48 diecast models are for real, unlike the phantom products of some model companies I could mention.
I am really stoked about these Masterworks models! No offense to any of the Lilliput collectors, but I am so sick of seeing so much coming out in 1:72 and basically nada in 1:48 and 1:32.
Go Tamiya! Live long and prosper! :D

There is no diecast in the Masterworks line (all plastic and white metal fittings) - correct?

Correct - no die-cast. Essentially pre-built plastic model kits.

I agree that the Tamiya Masterwork Collection is a great line. Yes, the price is steep but WWII German Camo patterns can be tricky when airbrushing. This way the hardest part is done for you. I like the "little weathering" effect that Tamiya applys. This way a person can customize their particular model to their liking. I hope Dragon follows suit and adds 1/35 armor to the CanDo line. How about some more "Finished Figures" from Tamiya. Any other 1/35 model builders/ collectors out there????
