I can't recall there ever beng a poll like this done before on here. We have lots of members with lots of diverse interests.

I've posted the poll globally, so the small scale guys and the off topic folk will participate too.

We have tank guys, plane guys, Joe guys etc and i am curious as to what proportion of each we have participating in this site.

So, regardless of scale, what is your MAIN area of interest?

I selected aircraft, although I also like armor. Unfortunately there is not a lot of 1/32 armor to collect.

Collected a lot of things, which I don't do anymore, but voted aircraft, which has been the constant thing since my youth I still buy. Though the scales have changed from time to time.

I collect sci-fi ships, mostly Star Trek, though not much to buy there lately.

Vast majority of my collecting is, and always has been, aircraft. Going back to my days as a kid building Airfix, Revell, and Monogram models.

In "diecast" I do anything from 1/18, down to 1/144.

Have about 20 armour pieces in 1/32 mostly, but some Dragon 1/35 as well.

Also have a decent collection of car models. About 30, and almost all high end Exoto, GMP, and Minichamps. Formula One, and Le Mans from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Mostly 1/18 scale, but some 1/12, and one mighty 1/10 Exoto 1966 Ford GT40. 8)

it's interesting: it's not uncommon for someone who likes aircraft to like cars as well. I am mostly an airplane guy too but i had a major car phase in my younger years. My gf at the time said i was 'car sick'...heh. She's gone now and so are the car models, but my love of airplanes remains. I do still have a few nice car models of cars from the late 80's and early 90's though (silver arrow mercedes, xjr jaguars, audi gto etc)

...this is true about aircraft guys liking cars, though you guys probably collected the bigger scales. I have boxes full of Hot Wheels, Johnny Lightning, and Greenlights.

Though I sold more than half of them, I still have in reserve the rarer First Editions, Treasure Hunts, White Lightnings, Green Machines, JL military, and HW 100% car sets and singles.

I modeled and collected diecast aircraft as a kid. And when I finally got bitten by the 1:18 bug aircraft were the reason. Since then I've collected a little bit of everything but aircraft remain my strongest focus.

I couldn't just pick one. I collect armor, aircraft and figures in 1/30 to 1/35.

I collect 1:18 Armor, mostly German. I have collected some of 21st's aircraft as well.....and few figures...uh something like 160  so I guess I dabble?
There seem to be more choices in 1:18 planes then tanks  but thats fine with me.
I'm just happy 21st got the WWII 1:18 military line out to collectors.

Mainly aircraft, but then I have a very healthy amount of armor as well, followed by figures.

It was the 1:18 Lou IV P-51 I found on a TRU shelf that got me into this hobby 12 years ago - not the Panther or US WWII figures, though I got all those later. Its also new aircraft that excite me the most to this day. I've got somewhere over 50 1:18 planes, which I didn't realize until I had to move my collection to my new house. Never mind the 1:32 and 1:72 that make up the bulk of the rest of my collection.

What this hobby did do, however, was broaden my perspective and get me interested in armor. I never really was interested in tanks prior to getting into this hobby. I purchased my first 1:18 tank in 2001 (XD M-48), then went crazy after 2002 with the Tiger, M-41, and halftracks and never stopped there.

With the armor came a need for figures, which thankfully were cheap back in the day. Not sure how many figures I have now, but there are lots and lots with even more parts and accessories. Most are stored away.

I have been modeling since I was 5. I got away from it as a young adult, and wandered in and out over the years.

I settled long ago on three scales, 1/144 aircraft; 1/72 German Armor; and 1/35 Scale American Armor. I still have some left over 1/48 (Bandai and Aurora), 1/6 and some 1/25 (left overs from the 70's augmented by RC when my XD fix couldn't be met).

When I saw my first XD in 1/18 I waas re-inspired to get into the hobby again. My wife encourage my collection and the man cave expaned into almost every room of the house. She loved the big birds, I loved the armor. I even got into scratch building a few item in 1/18.

She passed away almost two years ago, and I have not done much of anything since then. I want to get back into the hobby, but can't get movivated without my muse. I've got a half dozen unfinished projects laying around. Pick up XD when I see them cheap.

I am thinking of posting some of my old builds, and trying to finish up things I started. It's not like I don't have the time. I just got to get off my lazy arse and start cutting plasitc again.

I got into the hobby collecting 1:18 but then switched to 1:32 aircraft and armor. With the demise of 32x, my military purchases are limited to the occasional 1:72 aircraft or armor. I used to like to buy 1:32 and 1:72 FOV action series vehicles and weather them myself they aren't sold in stores anymore and the FOV enthusiast offerings besides being few and far between get more expensive all the time with iffy quality.

I also collect GI Joe but besides finding the rare figure at Walgreens, there isn't much out there that I don't already have. I collect 25th through Pursuit of Cobra and 30th. I have some of the Retaliation figures that were released earlier this year as well.

The future of GI Joe is up in the air as well. I guess I'll start collecting Hot Wheels, lol. :?

I collect figures and vehicles including armor.
I have in armor, vehicles and artillery a total of (58)
Figures are close to (400)
Pretty much everything is in 1/18 scale.
I try other scales, but it wasn't working for me.
I will get into 1/18 airplanes in 2 or 3 years.I am trying to catch up with the new stuff release by Pickelhaube and Battleground toys.

Aircraft are in my Heritage as Dad was training in B-29s when the atom bombs were dropped and the war ended. His memorabialia was always around and it was only natural that I loved his model planes and when old enough started building my own. Living just over 60 minutes from the Air Force Museum was a big influence. It is and has always been a near spiritual experience to visit there. It finally culminated in my active participation in the Tri-State Warbird Museum. Now, I have a greater appreciation for the bigger picture of ground forces as well mostly because of the Military Channel, this Forum and great cinema like "Saving Private Ryan" and "Band of Brothers".

I'm about 60/40 Aircraft/Armor.

I started out with 1/18 scale but I'm shifting to 1/32 for aircraft to save room.
(I also build 1/48 and 1/32 1/35 kits of both).

Vehicles, wheels or tracks, armor or soft skin, WW2 to VN. A few exceptions in era or aircraft.

There are always exceptions.

Collect 1/18 & 1/72 aircraft - build 1/48 & 1/32 aircraft
Collect 1/35 & 1/72 armour - build 1/35 armour
Also got a few 1/18 & 1/6 vehicles
I used to build and paint models for a company called Forgeworld - who some may recognise a the specialist model brand of Games Workshop.

WW2 German Armour is my main interest along with WW2 Aviation.

If I've done this right, here are some pictures of my 1/35 builds

Hard to place my poll vote.

I am 50/50 planes and tanks.

I guess I will have to go with tanks.

I picked other because I switch back and fourth. I started off with airplanes originally but shortly after got into the tanks and figures. I guess since the planes take up so much real-estate I have really backed off of those and just focused on the ground vehicles and figures. I’m primarily a WWII guy but I have some modern jets in my collection. I’m still hoping to pick up a Dauntless someday preferably loose since I will be displaying that one. With all the space constraints I really need to keep to the ground. I also dabble in Joe, Star Wars and Masters items along with model building. Lots going on in my house!

my hobby in photography actually got me into collecting military figures. i needed a subject, so I used some old random figures. slowly, i started making dioramas and eventually started collecting. nowadays, i don't have room for these stuff, so i just keep a few of my favorites and selling whatever i don't want.

The PLASTIC GENERALS COLLECTION - Everything WWII

#1 - 1:32 & 1:35 FIGURES = 1800

#2 - 1:32 & 1:35 ARMOR & VEHICLES = 101

#3 - 1:32 AIRCRAFT = 46

#4 - 1:32 & 1:35 TORPEDO BOATS & LANDING CRAFT = 11

#5 - 1:32 & 1:35 ARTILLERY = 20

I guess the numbers are an indicator about my collecting priorities, but when it really comes down to it, if I want it, it becomes a MUST!

My current participation in the hobby, which began about 18 years ago was focused mainly on WW2 airplanes, however I soon rekindled my latent interest in armor models, though not to the same extent. In recent years, however, with traditional diecast makers like Corgi facing mounting production quality and sales issues, I find that my armor collection is increasing by leaps and bounds----which is fine with me. One aspect of warbird collecting that I find not to my liking---is the increasing emphasis on modern era jets. I have many of these in my collection but am not interested in obtaining replicas of every possible F-18 or F-4 variant. I realize that this is a function of younger collectors entering the marketplace, which is OK with me, but I think that there is a growing imbalance in warbird discussions on the various forums favoring the very latest configurations, armaments etc. over those of earlier periods. Just my two cents, no offense intended.
