This will truly be a great X-mas!!

Can't wait to hear the reaction when the P-51, Sherman, and F-16 arrive at my doorstep in the coming month!

Paint scheme accuracy

Post by Rogo » Mon Oct 18, 2004 12:03 pm

I wonder if the production version will have the blue spinner and blue/white checkerboard mentioned in the reference. I hope BBI doesn't follow 21C's habit of altering paint schemes for no good reason.
Excellent detail on this bird though. Puts my XD BBD to shame!

21st will be shaking in their boots once they hear this. Either you sink or swim. Hopefully they will both learn to swim. It's a long shot but imagine if both companies merge. The possibilities are endless.

You would think before they both sink we'll wind up with a Zero out of all this.

On the Zero...

Post by tmanthegreat » Mon Oct 18, 2004 2:52 pm

Its doubtful, but we will get a Japanese self-defense force F-104 painted like something from one of those Japanese cartoons before 21st goes under :P

Perhaps BBI will be more willing to produce a Zero then 21st, especially if we let them know with plenty of Emails. Again to I have to ask does anyone remember a year or two ago if they had actually built prototypes of a Hellcat and Thunderbolt?

I remember specifically a P-47 tail in a picture of the bbi table. Without doubt. I just couldn't figure out why they wouldn't allow photos of it when they were ok with the Blackhawk. I'm suprised that nobody leaked a photo of it. It would of been cool to see. I never heard anything about the Hellcat though

If BBi's Mustang is as good as it looks, and I'm sure it will be, then I hope they take on a full line of WW2 planes. The Mustang with an engine is just awesome! Screw 21st making a Zero...come on BBi!!! :D

Like Ski, I clearly remember seeing the P-47 tail in show photos. And maybe this is my imagination playing tricks, but I think I recall seeing a photo with the bbi P-47 in the background, and it had an Indian with headress as nose art. Can't remember if it was a razorback or bubbletop.

You can bet that the BBI P-51 will be far, far more accurate than the 21st P-51! Just compare the pictures below and look at all the functions the BBI one will have. The 21st P-51 has a funny looking propeller, oversized riviting, a largely undetailed cockpit, the wings are way too fat and landing gear are inaccurate. 21st really screwed up their version, in light of all their other excellent aircraft releases. (They did give them some awesome paintjobs, however!!) Though I already have the first series 21st P-51, I'm getting the BBI P-51 so that I have an example of this famous fighter that matches all the other 21st planes as far as detail and accuracy!

BBI Mustang

I've never been a fan of BBI, but if this P-51 looks as good as the picture I've just become one. Alright 21st Century, it's put up or shut up time!

BBI P-51 -- Repaints?

Post by vulgarvulture » Tue Oct 19, 2004 2:22 pm

Anyone care to speculate if BBI will crank out a number of repaints of their Mustang? Just trying to figure out (not knowing how BBI operates) whether or not I need to jump at the first one that's released, or patiently wait to see what other paint schemes might come along.

I just feel a bit uncomfortable with BBI since they don't provide much intel on what their plans are regarding 1:18 aircraft. At least I have not seen it, aside from what they actually have produced to date.

I'm assuming repaints will follow in time if the line is successful, but thought I'd ask anyway.

The P-51 looks great, by the way. Time to box up BBD and the Blue Nose to make room for BBI's version.

I've been thinking the same thing. Although the photo version looks great, I will probably wait for a second version - that "killer" name, even though it's accurate, "kills" it for me. Just isn't something I'd want displayed around the family. On the other hand, the more we support the line from the beginning, the greater odds we'll see more and different product in the future. In the photo, the "killer" appears computer-added, not painted on the model. Maybe it will come as a sticker or decal. If so, the first version is good enough for me. :D

I see that BBI now has the Mustang and Sherman on their website. Same pictures we've already seen though. Nothing else new shown..

My Stug scratchbuild is on hold pending hearing more about BBI future armour releases. I do wish they'd forthcome with some more info....I'm having trauma induced flashbacks to the days we waited for info from 21C.

It must be noted that the "Killer" marking is very un-pc, which could be a good thing. We don't want them avoiding accuracy for the wrong reasons, although I hear you re: the family.

Same here! I don't want "Killer" splashed on the side of my Mustang. If it is a separate decal that I can leave off, I'll go for it. Otherwise... I'll have to hope for a repaint.

Maybe we could get the 1:18 scale decal maker to print
an historically inacurate decal that says "tree hugger" :P

I think his point is no one needs to make a mountain out of a mole hill with the name of the plane! Hope people that think the name is harsh don't own any Jerry Lee Lewis records...
