SBD Dauntless

Post by tkjaer21 » Wed May 02, 2007 2:29 pm

Is militarytoyshop.com the only place getting the Dauntless in this year? It says that it is an exclusive on the website. Do they mean that the decals for the Midway scheme are exclusive or the plane as a whole?

By the way, does everyone here plan on getting this beautiful plane?

I think they get first shot at selling it, and I think the midway paint scheme and the Decals for the Coral Sea versions is an exclusive to them. and after that it will be sold to other online. I could be wrong however.
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Let me hear your guns!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: My what?
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Your guns! Ack, ack, ack, ack, ack!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: [fires his airplane's guns] AHHHH!

To Answer tkjaer21's question.

MilitaryToyShop.com has the exclusive first release of the Dauntless. We chose to paint the aircraft as BuNo#2106. This aircraft still survives today in the Naval Museum in Pensacola. It is the only Battle Of Midway Dauntless to survive above water. Also the aircraft participated in the battle of Coral Sea prior. We realized with a simple decal kit you could change your Midway dauntless into a Coral Sea paint scheme with little work. And it is 100% accurate for the BuNo 2106.

To clarify the aircraft will be painted and ready to go in Midway colors. Included will be a complementary decal sheet if you would like to make the coral sea version.

I hope I have help answer your questions.

By the way in the past couple months I have had some great conversations with a lot of the guys on this forum.

We appreciate the Business!

Thank You!

It'll be a nice companion to the BBI Zero.

Many thanks for the reply mkxiv. I preordered one yesterday and can't wait to get it. I hope your company will get more exclusives in. Between you and badcat, I think we as collectors are getting some pretty cool exclusives. I can't wait for the BBI F6F Hellcat either. Those along with the Avenger and Corsair will go very well together for carrier-borne planes.

For the Pacific Theater Operations, we have the following either coming or here already:
P-38
P-40
P-47
P-51
F-4U
F6F
SBD Dauntless
TBM Avenger
B25

We just need the following for the PTO I believe:
F2A Buffalo
F4F
P-61
SB2C Helldiver
TBD Devastator
PBY Catalina
OS2U Kingfisher
Hawker Tempest
Supermarine Seafire
Yak 3
B-17
B-26

Built during the final days but never saw action:
P-80 Shooting Star
F8F Bearcat

Please care to add more on the PTO Aircraft if I do not have all that is already listed.

Admiral will have the SBD available this year for other retailer but in another paint scheme. So don’t worry you will have selection and choice of where to buy your collection from.

aviatornut.com,
I can't wait for the F6F-Hellcat to come out. The Hellcat should be here in June. Does that mean that they will be shipped to us in the month of June to our address or will they just arrive to the US, shipped to you, then out in the early part of July to us? I never really understant the shipping schedule. I wish there was a street date to rely on. Either way, I plan on buying the fiesty cat. I'm sure that your company will get some exclusives too. Just imagine a F-4 or B-25 exclusive.

tpa05,
According to AT's webstore on their website, most of the new release (non- exclusive) birds are $58.99 - $68.99+S&H. However, the SBD is $64.99+S&H at militarytoyshop.com.

militarytoyshop.com,
Will you produce the decales for other planes in the Coral Sea deco. Such as the F6F, F4U, B-25, Avenger, etc. when they all come out?

none of those planes were in service or took part in the Battle of Coral sea (except maybe the Avenger), if I remember correctly...it was all purely carrier based planes...

Thanks nooker21,
I don't know what I was thinking, I had my dates wrong, The F4F, SBD-3 and TBD-1 were the planes that were flown during the Battle of the Corral Sea.

i think the avanger's first action was at midway...a few land based ones made an ill fated attack. The devastator was the only US torpedo bomber at Coral Sea.
i never met an airplane i didn't like...

Thanks tkjaer21 regarding the Admiral info. As for the battle of Midway, only 6 of the 41 bombers made it back. It's been right at 30 years since I read the book but I still remember just building a model devastator and then reading about how they were for the most part wiped out in one single battle. I think that Midway was the last time they were used in combat.

What gets me is the fact that B-26 Marauders were used in a torpedo attack that resulted in the loss of all.....

I remember seeing a painting about that event. It showed a B-26 buzzing the Akagi's flight deck at a very low level.
