CHANGING SERVERS SOON...
Hey guys,
Well, the old hosting company I used for this forum and my http://www.warbird-photos.com site has said we're using too much bandwidth, in excess of 50 gigs a day! So, I'm going to be moving everything next month over to dreamhost, which gives me 200 gigs of space and 2 terabytes of bandwidth, well more than enough My other main site, http://www.disneycastmagic.com , is on dreamhost and that has been a very reliable hosting source. I'll keep you all updated. What I probably will do is get the site set up on the new server and wait till the last minute to close these boards, copy over the database and restore the forum over there, then change the domain to the point to the new server. It should be a seamless transition with only minimal downtime for these boards. I'll keep you all updated as we get closed to move time.

Thanks for letting us know, will the site URL stay the same?
BTW, you're not an actual Disney employee, are you? My younger brother is a castmember at Disneyland. He loves the job and has been a very faithful employee, but likens the corporate organizatioin to the Third Reich or the Soviet Union, save only that they're not practicing ethnic clensing

URL will all stay the same. http://www.gpxd.n3.net and http://www.warbird-photos.com/gpxd
And no, I'm not an employee... but everyone calls me an 'honorary cast member' or 'guest cast member' since I do a lot of things cast do. I shoot cast photos, get special access and VIP seating, go to cast parties, etc. What does your brother do? I know a LOT of people at Disneyland, and a LOT of people know who I am... mostly entertainment department, but also guest control, attractions, foods, custodial, leads, managers, etc.

Britt would now be the time to add the www.smallscalehq.com domain to the list? It's all registered and ready to go.

He used to work at the Autopia ride during the summer and just moved to retail and is in a store somewhere (he has told me, but I forgot which one). I wouldn't want to work for Disney (at the park at least) but my brother really enjoys it! There are some great benefits! He just may have run across you at one pointp51 wrote:URL will all stay the same. http://www.gpxd.n3.net and http://www.warbird-photos.com/gpxd

Agreed. To think there was at least one person who suggested not long ago that it was time for all of us to move on to another forum...blasphemy and mutiny..Coreyeagle48 wrote:P51,

My main concern right now is CPU useage of the PHP scripts both on this forum and warbird-photos.com. It should be okay. I'm also looking into seeing what exactly is causing the 50 gig a month bandwidth spike.
As far as donations, we'll see on that. I'll let you all know. It's probably about $200 for two years with the super high powered hosting server. I wouldn't ask you all to bear most of that though.
And no, none of the links will change, whatever you have bookmarked in your favorites will still work. It should be a seamless changeover.

Is it possible that the linked photos in the threads are causing part of the spike? There are a lot of them, and they load every time you open a thread. I don't know if the data that routes through the server from another source counts as bandwidth, rather than a secondary link, but if it does, it techincally passes through twice---once from the source and once to the end-user. I could see it adding up pretty fast.

Linked photos are pulled from the source that hosts them not the forum. The only bandwidth hit to the forum is for the text of the link itself.
