I finally gave in and got a 21c F-86, which was sent by a fellow boardmember. It is the "Mitch's Squitch" version, and I must say, it looks much better in person! My compliments to 21c for producing yet another great aircraft. It is quite solid in construction and the detail and functionality are excellent! It goes quite well with the Admiral Toys F-86 and luckily both represent different models of the F-86. The AT version (which still has the superior paintscheme and paneling, IMHO) shows just how much that company got right on their first aircraft. Still, the 21c bird is a big winner in my book and I'm quite glad to have gotten one :D

21st Century F-86 Sabre series 2 "Mitch's Squitch".

There is one case of four at the Super Wal-Mart on 441 & Sample Road in Broward County.

On Sunday night about 10:00 pm I spotted the unopened case in the isle on the shipping pallet. I asked the clerk to open the box for me and they were all series 2 sabres. I did not take any home. They should be up on the shelf by Monday morning.

Hurry hurry before there all gone.

:D
I saw these last night. While not in line to join my collection, the F-86 is a really sharp looking bird.

MiG 15 S2 and S3 not at WM?

Post by der Vogelfänger » Wed Nov 15, 2006 2:40 pm

Longrifle raised an interesting point on the main forum regarding the above schemes heading to the smaller retailers and etailers but not to WM....wondering why this is, since the S2 and S3 are becoming even more desirable; nontheless, paying a WM price would be more palatable to more of us than paying a much larger $amount elsewhere. Has WM fallen out of favor with 21C; did the showing in Avenger sales, perhaps not meeting "their" expectations, sway 21C to get their releases back to the smaller folks? How all this unfolds should be very interesting :? :)

So what do you like about your mig?

I like the drop down gun Pod myself.

I like the cockpit and the overall shape of the plane.

As for the 21c F-86, the cockpit, deep intakes, and gun bays come to mine!

You can thank Kurt Tank (along with Hans Multhopp) and his Ta-183 Hukebein for the design idea...after WWII the Soviets took the German design several steps further and, "presto", the MiG 15 and others. Dr. Tank did continue to work on the Ta-183 design, in Argentina, around 1947. The photos below are thumbnails, thus click to enlarge. Enjoy!

Actually, I think the TA-183 is a pretty cool looking fighter 8) I almost wish they had seen action in WWII, but it is a good thing they didn't! I would love to have one in 1:18, but it is quite unlikely. In 1:72 or 1:48, however...

The f-86 has an axial-flow jet engine and the Mig 15 has the centrifugal-flow jet engine,

Now the difference is in the axial-flow jet engine it uses many turbine blades to compress the air, this allows for a smaller diameter in the turbines. Was also a German design that was used in the ME-262

The centrifugal-flow jet engine has a centrifugal compressor instead of the axial-flow compressor and used two large turbines; one in front and one in the combustion chamber, this is why the Mig 15 is bigger around in diameter, due to the turbines.

Just I would share that with you guys. 8)

TMTG,

AMTech makes the Ta-183 plastic kit in 1/48 which I purchased two of from Squadron. The airplane is really beautiful in it's own rights. Check out this link, if you would like:

Perhaps the cartoon series could have been named: Blitzkrieg Buddies

(mit Hans und Franz, and they are here to, clap, blow-you-up!)

Of coarse, Wilhelm Busch would HAVE be the cartoonist since he is the father of the modern day comic strip; the above would be along the lines of his Max and Moritz characters who were the inspiration for The Katzenjammer Kids.

Moth, I believe we have a winner! Excellent idea :D

Would like to bring up the above link which grunt1 posted on 05Nov06....the brief histories of some of the F-86's is really cool; in particular Mitch's Squitch.....Colonel Mitchell had flown one of the 18 P-38's, in WWII PTO, who downed Admiral Yamamoto, etc. Good insight for all of us F-86 fans(and history detail nuts)...thanks grunt1.

Here is the link, again, in case anyone missed it earlier:

Thanks for reposting that! The information means alot more now that I have the 21c replica of "Mitch's Squitch" :) Very cool to know that he was one of the lead pilots in the famous Yamamoto mission, it gives the plane some more meaning. The color photos of all three F-86s that 21c is currently going to produce are also cool!

Glad you liked the link, too. Grunt1 has posted some great links, and upon revisiting the photos, I really enjoyed the brief history of Mitch's Squitch, and was jacked up enough to write the post above, with the mentioned link. I hope to make a purchase very soon and will appreciate the 'Squitch even more.

Thanks,

I went to two Walmarts today, and had a case of "so close yet so far". At the first Walmart I spotted 4 boxes of MIG-15s, when I got close to them I could see they were the North Korean version. So I went to another Walmart and spotted 4 more MIG-15 boxes up high. Thinking these might be the Chinese camo version, I found the ladder and climbed up to take a look. Well those were 4 more NK versions. Still the Chinese MIG-15 eludes me. So close yet so far! :( :( :( :(

I have a feeling that when the Huff hits it will bring big dollars on the eBay. I think it is the livery most of us have been waiting for (except for those jarheads who like that Mig Mad Marine  )

Huff's sighted

Post by grunt1 » Sat Nov 18, 2006 1:29 pm

In my fruitless search for paks and hanomags I stumbled across a pile (4) of Huff Sabres. 8)

If this is a first sighting I'll post pictures later. I'm doing this post from my phone and I didn't turn up any other Huff sightings in a quick search.

Ok, appears this was a first sighting so I went back and got all four.

One I will keep, the other is headed to evil bay to keep wife happy.

As a thank you to all of you that have helped me find items not in my AO over the last year, the remaining two are for sale/trade for board members only at my cost plus shipping in the BST forum.
