What should be the next improvement for 1-18 Aircraft?

Post by Jericoeagle1 » Mon Apr 03, 2006 7:10 pm

With companies now adding as many details as possible I was wondering just how they can raise the bar further? Whats your thoughts, also even though this is about aircraft I'd like to hear what the armor guys feel can be improved.

I chose other...

My option is this...I would like to see the model retain the 39.99 dollar price tag at Wal-Mart!

But I wouldn't mind seeing a more expensive motorzed prop perhaps? I think that could be kinda fun.
:D

I'd like to see engines that open, and also greater ordinance loads.

I was actually thinking of doing a similar poll, but with more emphasis towards how much is good enough. I'm with TKO - as long as the price stays the same, they can do as much as they want.

But, to pick one - give me ground crew. With alot of the new details, these planes almost need to be displayed in a hanger dioramma.

I chose ground support personnel, but was equally for battle damged panels.

The only reason I resisted collecting planes is that there is no opening engine covers. It is pretty easy to make them on planes, and the engines themselfs are very simple from top view, this applys only to piston engines, turbines are a great mess of fans and such, and the exterior of the turbine is unexplanably weird, with many pipes and housings.

I voted for the genric paint/make your own markings, just to have some variety in unique markings, but a close second for me would be engine detail. I don't necessarily need a full engine that comes out, but removeable panels with engine detail would be great.

I'am with MORIAN MINER--Give me a grond crew!!!! Everything else would be cool but I think planes with ground crews would make for some kick-ass displays---and DIO pics too---RED---

I love the options in this poll. Great ideas. The inflight meal would be nice, and I'd love to hear the cursin ground crew. And the airsick pilot... awesome. :-D

Great poll Jericho. I had a real hard time deciding because ideally, we should have all those goodies with our models. But I finally decided on the motorized prop, which to me at least, would be very cool.

I dunno. A motorized prop would be nothing more than a novelty to me. Unless it allowed the plane to actually fly that is.

Agreed on the prop...novelty.
I LOVE the first two choices but I think they are no-brainers. I think those feature have to start to happen. I like ground crew and hardware but that is supposedly already happening. In turn I picked battle damage b/c I think it too is a great, easy way to add "playability" - if you have removable panel for the engine or guns, just add an extra with bullet-holes. :D I like this idea for AFVs and figures too. 8)

I chose other. I think the most important improvement that 1:18 aircraft can include is very simple.... anti-air guns and emplacements with tons of crew to shoot them down!! Armor rules the ground and could rule the skies if they were given wings.

I'd like to see working engines, that way I wouldn't have to finish the P-38 I'm working on!!

Next Improvements

Post by Folkwulfe » Fri Apr 07, 2006 3:51 pm

While most all (except in-flight meals...bleckt!) are good, one thing that I don't think has been addressed yet. How about customizable pieces that are substituted in the originals. For WW2 collectors....how about a razorback fuse for the P-51 with multiple markings for various a/c. Early engine nacelles for the P-38...as well as ordinance variations. For the modern guys....F-18 forward fuse with the 2/seat version, multiple ejector racks and various ordinance. The possibilities are endless....and wouldn't require total re-tooling for another version of what is already in production. It would even spur renewed interest in already produced stocks gather dust on shelves.....?

I voted 'other".

I want more DIHEDRAL in these planes.

You know, the same amount that they have in real life.

I can't begin to guess what the major problem is with that aspect of these otherwise fine planes. Now BBI's did it with their Zero - flat again!

Flat wings look SO flippin' stupid . . . Ahh, I'll be OK . . .

I'm gonna go with extra ordinance. I'd love some rockets for the German birds.

i voted for engines
if you have an engine cover that opens, it opens all kinds of posibilities :D
then they could sell ground crew with tool boxes in little packs like they do soldiers. 8)

I voted for engines also. The size of these models lends itself to nice engine detail.

Tugs, bomb dollies, fuel bowsers, ground crew, spare parts, engines, engine stands, etc. Market an Airfield Accessory Kit, for each side/theater.

Generic paint schemes would be nice too.

AMEN brother! That’s the one thing I hate about the BBi corsair. I really don't give a rats a$$ about how much detail there is in the cockpit. You can't see it when it’s hanging from the ceiling. The 21st C corsair looks much better than the BBI in flight hands down.
While I’m on a roll here is one more thing I would like to see improved Landing gear. Come guys lets shorten up the doors so the struts will be shorter and these things will look right sitting on the ground! Compressible struts would be nice but it will drive up the price.
Motors a novelty? A spinning prop is what brings these things to life, otherwise all you’ve got is a boneyard.

Try parking your plane in front of a powerful fan. On most XD and BBI WWII planes with smoothly spinning props, you get a very nice effect w/o the hastle of inserting your own motor :D

The 21c & BBI Corsairs work very well, in regards to this effect, as do the XD P-38, P-47, Spitfire, FW-190 and the BBI P-51. I'll have to take a video sometime.
