Die Glocke Personal Project

Post by Crimson Pilot » Mon Aug 19, 2019 5:29 pm

Maybe it existed, maybe it didn't, maybe it did but the facts are wrong. It is an interesting project to try. I was hoping for some input if anyone knows the best way to proceed it. I want to 3D print it. There are some designs on Thingiverse I saw. There are multiple designs and sizes when I did some research on it online. Let me know what you recommend. It would be neat if someone on here actually built something like it too. I want to make a neat diorama like a industrial style lab for it. I mostly need design and size input to fit my 1/18 collection. I will build the diorama to suit it. Let me know what you think. This is a bit of a stray from the normal topics for builds. May prove to be fun and not something I have seen done yet.

Was curious so I found this picture/artist concept....

There seem to be many different interpretations of exactly what it looked like.

What makes the P-51 Mustang so special?

Yeah, some say 10ft tall while others 30+ tall. Not much consistency. Some more rounded and other pics have defined features. The original alleged testimony is lost through interpretation. It may be like making anything else that has it's existence in question - Get the key points and you cant be too wrong. In this case it would be bell shaped and at least bigger than a person.

It's easy to have multiple designs for something that never existed, like elves, dragons, orcs, or super secret Nazi weapons.

I will go ahead and try one of the Thingiverse models. What should be a reasonable size to print it at for 1/18? Maybe 8-10in?

As far as size, the 8" - 10" range sounds like a good start in 1:18.
Your in the realm of " what if " so your parameters are limitless.

Update: Top section printed. Had to get more filament. It looks like it is going to be fairly large overall at 10in. Printing mid section now.

Hit a snag. Only ABS available in stores by me so I tried it and my bed is malfunctioning aka not heating. Tried a good layer for it to stick to but no good. More PLA is being ordered online.

My son gave me a 3D printer for my birthday in February, still haven't mastered it.
Good luck.

PLA is a good starter filament. I am happy with it for my needs. For particular uses different types may be needed. They all have pro/cons. Just keep it level and you should be fine. Some prints may need to be printed in sections or certain placements. The Bell is broken up into 3 sections due to its size. The longer it prints means there is more opportunity to have an issue. That is not very common if you get everything in order. I can not risk running out of filament mis print and not have any extra on hand to continue printing. My ME-163 sat on the bed like it was on the file. it printed fine just not the way it was supposed to. I cut that and stood it up and it printed like it was supposed to. It used way less supports as well. The Bell is more simple overall just a bit of a filament hog using my parameters. YouTube is a great source of info to troubleshoot. Print small and work your way up to larger prints once you are familiar with it.

Finally got it printed. Already have it primed. Most of my stuff is boxed up at the moment. Planning a scientific warehouse type of diorama for it. Still looking for more scientist looking figures to staff it with the rest. I will likely print most of them.
