1/18 A4E Skyhawk 2019

Little sneak peak at the A4E coming in 2019. I've been tinkering around with the rudder. The fuselage is being reprint in SLA that will be smooth to apply the detail. The PLA material was a lot of work to get smooth. This kit will be very simple. I way over engineered the 163 to the point is was not practical. I'm thinking this will have plug in landing gear, static control surfaces, speed break and avionics hump. The approx overall dim will be 25"L x 18" x 12". It's too early for a price point.

Can’t wait. This is a much needed aircraft that served with at least eight different countries in a number of variants. She first flew in 1954 and last flew with the Israeli Defense Force in 2015. She had a very impressive record in Vietnam. I’m in for at least two.

Excellent news Nathan, looking forward to the next update. I have a very good friend who is a retired Gunny and was also a civilian tech rep with the A-4E's and M's at the former NAS Willow Grove, PA. If you need any Skyhawk questions answered, let me know. The Trumpeter kit has A LOT of inaccuracies externally.

Not my favorite plane but definitely significant. Looking forward to seeing your work. The Komet is amazing!

Just a FYI Nathan, you mentioned "static control surfaces" for the A-4. The slats, on the A-4, were always down when she was parked (see my photo above) and also, where the slat meets the top of the wing, there should be NO STEP like most models often portray.
Hope this helps.

Danny, This may wet your appetite.
FLA printed, sanded and primed. These are the same person printing the A4. He's reprinting them in SLA.

This is a SLA intake on the F4. Raw no primer or sanding.

Steve, The leading edge slate is seperate. It can be positioned up or down depending on the builders preference.

While I wait for the A4 fuselage to be printed, I received the Polar Lights 1/350 50th Ann. Enterprise from Santa. Should be 3-4 weeks. Lights & sounds the whole nine yards. Should be sweet.

HOLY FREAKING CRAP
I know enough former F-4 crew and maintainers to have an entire Carrier air wing bought of those F-4 phantoms what variants will be made? All!?!?

I didn’t know you were into Sci-Fi, that’s how I got into models. The only big Polar Lights kit I built was the NX-01 and it was great. I have a couple refits I hope to build someday. I’ve also got some cool stuff like 1/350 Romulan BOP and 1/650 Enterprise E and D. Hopefully I will have time to build them someday.

According to the 1:18 scale Aircraft / bbi / 21st Century Toys page on Facebook, dannyc, Tom will be making the F-4 and a F-15 for 2019. The Phantom variants are F-4J/C/D then the F-4E/EJ/F, people can modify them beyond that he says.
The F-15 variants will be F-15A/C/D/E.

Seeing those three jets at that level of development is exciting news. Have to ask if he’s considering an A-10 for a future release in 1/18 scale?

Birddog, Who knows anything is possible. I think if we got enough of us together we could knock out 1 or 2 of these a year.

That Su-27 got me excited! But size and cost may be prohibitive... Is only the Su-27S going to be offered, or are there plans to also model other types from the Su-27 family?

Being relatively new to 1/18th scale, I am very excited to see anything new being produced these days. It is always good to see new subjects being produced!

The variants are all dependent on Tom and what he prints. He's providing the bones and I am doing the detailing and molding. Each variant will require the same amount of work. So far from this thread there's at least 15 variants. That's probably 10-15yrs of work for one person. My knowledge on the differences between variants is good at best. Depending on the model I don't know what would be a major overhaul or a simple part swap. To my understanding the A4 visually doesn't change much after the E/F version. That will be an easy upgrade with parts. Size, complexity and cost will play a major factor on what gets done. My end goal is to eventually have Thunderchief sitting on my desk someday.

Sidenote: I ordered a lighting & sound kit for the TOS Enterprise and thought that would be a cool add on for the A4. Some cockpit, Nav, engine lights and some sound synced to the effects.

Are these going to be offered as kits or complete, painted models?

Unless things change the aircraft I offer will be in kit form. There might be a board member that would fill that roll.

This is why I want to invest in a 3D printer! They all look sweet but I really like the SU-27. I was really bummed when Merit decided not to go forward with its plans to make it. Thanks to F-14 Spotcat ( The lacking sales is what i'm convinced is the reason why Merit pulled out of the 1/18 scale buisness) Thank God they went on with the AV-8B HarrierII!
