I thought the 1/18 FW-190A-8 was gone from the Squadron catalog but I found it on a different page. Looks like the A-5 is forever gone.

Yeah, I saw the FW-190A8 was still in the latest Squadron catalogue, but the A5 kit can still be found in a lot of places and seems to be the slower-selling of the two kits. I know at my local Hobbytown USA store, the guy that orders all the kits and diecast planes said the A5 was a slow seller... They also got in some of the A8 kits.

In any event, my FW-190A8 is coming along finally. I should have been done a month or so ago, but when I encountered issues with paint blistering when applying the decals, I got annoyed, bought another kit, and started over. I have no idea what would have caused the acrylic paint blistering other than the fact I had paints from 3 different manufacturers on that first model (started with Vallejo, went to Tamiya, then to Mission Models) and there could have been some kind of reaction, trapped moisture, or something related. The 2nd time around things have gone rather well so far and I’ve stuck with one paint brand - Mission Models. If you haven’t tried Mission Models paints yet, they are fantastic and well worth the price :D

This is finally starting to look like Hans Dortenmann’s FW-190A8:

There is still a bit of work left to do, including some weathering, dull coat, canopy, and final assembly, but the model is progressing... I have used the new Mission Models acrylic paints, primers, and clear coatings and I really like how they have performed!

One more chance to get an FW 190A-8 kit for $80.59. Price only good 'til Monday night. Ad some paint or accessories enough to get it up to $100 and you can get free shipping in the continental U.S. That would about pay for the extra items.
