Toyfair '06 approacheth..

Post by aferguson » Fri Jan 27, 2006 5:08 pm

Toyfair '06 starts two weeks, this Sunday. In previous years i have been pretty excited about Toyfair and the info it would bring but after being fairly disappointed for the passed few years i'm less expectant this time around.

However, hope springs eternal and maybe we'll see some juicy tidbits we haven't heard about or maybe even another new company in the 1/18 scene..

If nothing else we'll get to see 21c's primer painted Avenger prototype again.. :P

Hmm, I know what you mean. I'm not really expecting anything totally new from 21C given how much announced stuff is yet to be released; just new Avenger pics, maybe F-86 and MiG protos. Though I do remember something about a new piece of armor hinted at in an interview with Roy that we haven't heard anyhting about yet.

Did bbi show anything at all last year, I can't even remember. Still, I really hope they, or whoever is representing them, will have confirmation of an A-10, maybe some new modern armor, that would be nice.

Ah well, the real highlight of Toy Fair for me will be all the new MLs anyway.

Merit was there but did not show anything new. However a few days before the public show Figures.com had some pics of the updated bbi WWII guys (funny we are still waiting for these to really arrive...), so there is hope for some news.

Mike said they won't SHOW anything new in 1/18, but maybe they can TELL us of some new things in 1/18.

We can only hope and pray...

Armor :?: I hope its a King Tiger or any thing else, except a RC Panzer IV :P We've all offered many gerat ideas for 21st to choose from... the King Tiger, Jagdpanther, Sturmtiger, U.S. Tanks, British, Russian armor. Just bring it on.
I think the Panzer IV S1 has the potential for the most variants based on this tank; the Assault Panzer IV "Brummbar", Hummel, Sturmgeschutz IV and many more...
My thanks to 21st for just offering armor in this scale and at price it is.

Isn't the Toy Fair in Germany next week? That's the one Mike said that he was going to attend. Maybe we'll hear or see something being shown from bbi there as well as 21st Century. Is anyone from the board going to attend?

So, do we have an idea now who is going to the NYC Toy Fair?

I'll be there at least the first day, and maybe the last day. I'll be wearing a hat with the "Ultimate Soldier" pin on the hat and no pants on so say hello. If you see a big guy with a goatee and a field jacket, that's me.

Just kidding about the no pants guys :D

If I saw a big guy in a field jacket with no pants on, I wouldn't be saying hello, I'd be leaving. Image Image

In todays mail I received the Toy Fair program which includes a map of the exhibit floors with all the vendor spaces marked and accompanoed by a list of vendors with space numbers.

Guess what? No 21st Century Toys.

In years past 21st Century was listed as well as the Hotel suites where 21st Century hosted receptions were listed.

This year, nothing, nada, zilcth, zippo, no suree bob..........nothing

Somebody is going to get a surprise

It's hard to believe it's a printing error.

I hope the bbi approach to sharing info is not rubbing off.
I would still expect them to be there. I think Zach said info has been tight lately to gear up for Toy Fair, so at the least maybe we'll get all that stored up info if it turns out 21C not going :P

EDIT - If you go to the Toy Fair 2006 site you can search for exhibitors. 21st Century Toys is not only listed, but has 800 square feet of space at booth 5617. For comparison's sake, Dragon is next door with half that.

I hope things haven't changed since they put the plan together. :?

there's no mention of Toy Fair on 21c's site. They usually talk about shows they are doing well in advance of going..

According to my source, who is also getting me in, the big flashy magazine type mailer that last year had all kinds of info about 21C, is always leaving vendors out. My source says you get a complete listing the size of a phone book when you first go in.

Thanks, Digger for finding the location info.

Well if 21C doesn't show that means they're busy working on all their new stuff. Just trying to be optimistic here. :D

Floor Space

Post by lightning2000 » Wed Feb 01, 2006 3:04 pm

Hi,
Just because they're not saying anything aloud doesnt mean they're not attending Toy Fair. Logistically, its almost impossible for them to pull out at this point. They had a very large custom booth for last year's show which will no doubt be used again for this year's show. Typically, these booths have to be erected and dismantled on a very tight schedule, with Union labor involved, not to mention trucking companies to move it from place A to place B.

They also have to sign a contract for the floor space, which is very expensive. To pull out means they still have to pay for the space or risk running a suit by the convention center.

I'm more inclined to believe that they have some very special announcements that they want to make at Toy Fair and would rather do so at the show than advertise them ahead of time.

no doubt

Post by digger » Wed Feb 01, 2006 3:46 pm

There is zero reason to think they are not going. They always go, Zach has mentioned the show, they are on the floor plan...I don't think there is any doubt at this point.
After seeing the size of their booth this thread sounds a lot like "21C discontinued" and then we see 9 new releases in 2 weeks.

Guys-

Sorry about not responding sooner to this thread. I was on a Cruise Ship all last week on a family vacation! So lets dispell some myths now...

Yes 21st is going to display at ToyFair.

Yes AREA-21 will be present to cover the show. I got through my weeks work of piled up mail to find my flight and hotel information from 21st Century Toys Inc.

Yes there will be never before seen paint schemes and perhaps other little new tid bits at the show.

I have been informed that at this years show the majority of products on display will be products that are ready now or will be ready in the next couple months. The current trend in the industry is that ComicCon is the big fan push with the new Crazy stuff! NYTF is an industry show and thus the focus is shifed to "ready to run" products only.

Yes we will see the Avenger in the show, again. but these will not be grey prototypes. I have it on good authority we will be seeing them in a much more complete "ready to ship" state. Sounds like we might see boxed samples to me!

Coverage will begin a couple hours before the show on Feb. 12th! AREA-21 is going in early to the show to get first pics! We perfer to think of it as the Paratrooper drop the night before the D-Day invasion!

See you all from NY... only 1 week away

Glad to be back Hworth! Gotta get all geared up for NY! 21st is pouring in all kinds of new information. Some has to be held back for the show but other news will start to surface on AREA-21 this week.

I just got the pics for the 1:32 scale S2 zero and macchi! These will be posted on AREA-21 later tonight or tomorrow morning.
