M5A1 in 1:18 - Halloween update by 1958Zelda

The first Battleground M5A1 prototype came in over the weekend. This tank was a personal favorite of mine from childhood so in my excitement I went ahead and put the main bits together for some quick pictures. There are a lot of accessories not attached yet like the tools, spare tracks, bustle, radio antennae, etc.

Let me know if you see anything incorrect or off.

Grunt,
You have out done yourself on this one.
Very nice looking tank.
Any idea what cost it would go for?

 Wow looks very cool Grunt. Did you have the tracks printed separately? I noticed the right side of the tank didn't have one on.
I like it! :salute:

Thanks guys. There are a variety of versions that will be available. The one shown is a M5A1 late. It can also be an early if you don't attach the bustle, MG shield, etc.. The running gear and tracks are separate as Normandy noted. This was done to make painting easier, but also to set it up for RC in 1:16. There are four working hatches and the periscopes rotate 360 which is hard to show in the pictures.

The 1:16 RC version track links are separate and attached by pins. It didn't seem cost effective to do that for 1:18, but it's possible if someone really wants one that way.

Cost wise, it will be more expensive than the Panzer 38t, but no where near the Puma. The biggest issue as always is how much material Shapeways needs to make the model. You know I'd push these out for $75-$100 all day long if it was possible.

That is gorgeous Grunt, really. Nice work man. I'm looking into the 1/16 one seriously... I'd want that to match to the 1/16 tanks I have I think.

Looks great Grunt. One of my favourite tanks for some strange reason. Will be keeping an eye on this project. You need to hit that model with some primer so we can see the details!

That looks fantastic! An M-5 has been sorely needed in 1:18 scale for years. 21c made some great models of them in 1:32 and 1:6 scales, but strangely never in 1:18... Glad to see it finally being realized and looking just as good as a famous tank like that should :D

That has to be an award winner of some kind. Do you enter modeling contests? It was a kit and surely qualifies. If only I could get my 1/6 version to look anything close to that! :salute: :flag:

Amazing and beautiful work on that M5. One of the most beautiful armor models I've seen in a while. As Axis said, it is an award winner :D

There is nobody doing work this good in 3D printing IMO, not in the realm of models/toys anyway. This is absolutely amazing.
