1/18 F-14 Tomcat re-release?

Post by tko24 » Fri Mar 25, 2016 7:27 pm

I'm sure it's been asked before but I don't visit this forum much anymore. I just had surgery 2 days ago and due to pain meds I'm not feeling well or up to searching through all the old threads for an answer. Basically I'd like to know if anyone has heard any scuttlebut regarding JSI/Merit re-releasing the F-14? I have a Jolly Rodgers"reduced spot version" displayed in flight mode on an acrylic stand and would love a second one displayed gear down with the metal landing gear but I never see the Tomcats for sale on Ebay anymore or any where else for that matter and when I do they're asking double or triple what they originally sold for. The metal gear sell for $105.00, I hesitate to pay that much for a metel gear set when I don't even know if I can get my hands on another Tomcat. They keep releasing their tanks as repaints, any rumors about the 1/18 F-14 Tomcat?

As far as I know there are no plans to release another F-14 from JSI. About a year ago I asked a Merit representative that same question and he said he has not heard any talk about another JSI F-14. He told me there will be a Harrier but no Tomcat.

Thanks for the replies guys, that's really really bad news. I guess that means I'll have to pay a crazy price or engage in a bloody bidding war the next time I'm lucky enough to see one listed if I want one to display on it's gear in a diorama. Buying one to do a custom paint version is definitely out of the question now. I would hope the molds/masters don't get destroyed in the hope that they're purchased by someone in the future that might consider producing them again. My search continues then, even one with the spots would work since I don't think it would be a hard fix. Should have bought a second one when they were still common.

yep they're all gone and even if they re-release them again it won't be cheap. I got so lucky to score the BK lighted version few months ago in mint condition complete with box and display stand for less than retail.

Unfortunately, EBay is your only source. There were 3 Tomcats on there last week, two 154 jets and a 84 version but, they won't come cheap.

It still makes no sense, who ever has the molds not to capitalize on so many wanting another in a cool scheme!

You watch, the lit version will creep up close to a grand over the next few years. Sure am glad i bought mine when new. I couldn't afford it now. I used to have a second MIB "Spotcat". Regretting not holding on to it as an investment.

I would grab one before they go up any higher.

I believe the Spot Cat is in the $300 range while the BK is around 5 bills. Out of box/used is a bit less.

TOYKTDLGH:

Thanks for the info. I remember when people almost couldn't give the Spotcats away.

I'm glad I got mine when they first came out.

IF by chance we were to get a "re-paint", I'd like to see one of these two next.

This guy is smoking crack !! No one in their right mind is gonna pay that much. I've seen the 154 jets go for in the range of @ $400.00 - 500.00. Anything more than that is crazy.

Jolly Rogers are going between 450-550 and BKs 600-700 looking through Ebay the last 6 months. They need a completely low-vis repaint!

I believe the confusion was caused by a recent email that went out from a seller that had a rather vague statement about a new pre-order F-14 Tomcat of only 1000 pieces being released soon (December 2016). As far as I could tell, it was for a 1:72 scale F-14, and had nothing to do with 1:18.

This is the description I saw:

Calibre Wings 1:72 Aircraft CA721401
Grumman F-14B Tomcat Diecast Model
USN VF-103 Jolly Rogers, AA103, USS John F. Kennedy, Last F-14 Cruise 2004

Limited Edition
1000
