I joined the old GPXD forum in the summer of 2003. Was actually referred there by Arlene from 21c's customer service  Still remember what my first post was about: a question about the then-new 21c M2 Bradley AFV. Have been on pretty much daily since then.

There are a few others from the old site that still actively post across the various forums, which is fantastic. I know internet forums are becoming obsolete with the advent of Facebook and other social media sites, but I still have to give this site credit for having remained active for so long and continuing to have regular responses, updates, and new threads on a daily basis. Not every forum can say that :D

I was on for a couple of years before it ended. I believe we sent $5 to keep it going. Joined this great place the first day.

I just missed Groundpounders myself, joining up after it transformed into SSHQ.

I lurked around back then. Not that I've ever been the most prolific or eloquent poster.

Tanker85 present and accounted for. I have been lurking mostly in the background but I wanted to say I have been here since around 2003. I have really enjoyed being a part of this forum and hope it will long continue.

Tanks for the memories

Like others, I don't remember exactly when I discovered the previous board, probably just after getting the 1:18 21st Century Sherman at Toys R Us...very early 2000's is best guess. I went by Jagdplastic.

I changed to the current moniker with the new board format. Checking back at least weekly, often more, I'm mostly looking for the latest intel on the Merit FW-190A saga. How sweet that is!

This board keeps me more widely involved in a hobby that has evolved into kit building again that I had abandoned ~40 years ago.

Thanks to all who actively keep this board going.

Roger that!

Been around for a while, and miss the days of hunting for the pieces as they started to hit the shelves at TRU and don't get me started on the Walmart Clearance, if only I could go back and literally load up a U-Haul box truck lol

Been a long ride, and enjoyed it, just wished I had more time to hunt down some of the pieces I wished I had purchased more of, and wished I had time to do more in the way of customization, especially with the release of the new Harrier.

Yep, I was on the old groundpounder's site too! Been around since early 2000s (2001?) - I want to say I found the site because it was actually referenced on a 21C product box? Is that possible?!?!

I give credit to 21C for basically creating a new category of product back then - the "model-toy" or whatever you want to call it. Prebuilt and pre-painted and a little sturdier and more mass produced like a "toy", but with some of the rich detail of a model. BBI, Admiral, FOV, Merit and others picked up the torch and a few are trying to keep it still burning! Different aspects of the original formula have changed over the years, alternately frustrating different groups (too "toy", too expensive, too fragile, etc.). But all in all it's been a fun ride, and I'm still hopeful to see where it goes.

And just as importantly, I think we've all met some awesome people along the way because of the hobby and this site!

How new and exciting it was back then...

Post by c44 » Fri Dec 25, 2015 6:04 pm

Used to post as currahee back at the turn of the century.

parrish333, that is so true what you say about creating a new category...before that, I had models too fragile to do more than look at & I also collected plastic soldiers & other military toys, and there was not much middle ground between the two genres...then the hybrid that was 21ct was unleashed, and here we are today...
Oddly, the first time I saw the 1/18 figures (and p-51 and me109), I resisted---for about 48 hours---because I didn't want to start collecting yet another scale...then I doubled back to TRU and gave in... :)

Now does anybody here stay in touch with the legendary GroundPounder? He was such a good guy and always kept the forum on an even keel back in the formative days...funny how he basically lost interest (by his own words) and walked away from the hobby...

WOW! Arlene from 21st there's a name I haven't heard in years! I don't even remember when I joined the ol' GP board but it's cool to see what it's become. I used to go back and forth with G.p. about cool 1/32 scale figures we'd find and Winky would show his MASSIVE soldier collection.Wow how time goes by.
