1/18 FW 190A - BACK OPEN

:?: :?: :?: :?:

I seem to remember a lot of chatter about an FW 190A coming from Merit some time ago. Seems the Harrier release has overshadowed the Focke-Wulf which is to me the last hope to keep 1/18 WWII aircraft going.

Sunday is November 1

Any updates? Any intel out there? Has interest been lost? I hear crickets chirping. :|

That would be disasterous. Not sure you'd be able to hold Hitler back on commenting on Youtube for that much of a delay. :P

I wonder how much the success of the Harrier will affect the 190 project rollout :?:

Given how Merit/JSI have re-released a bunch of 21c toolings ranging from the original ME-109E and Stuka to the ME-262 and F-86, it makes me think we will ultimately wind up with an "improved" version of 21c's FW-190D9... That would be quite the kicker

Decent landing gear and thining out those thick squared-off trailing edges to the wings and stablizers would be about all that would be needed to make a good D-9

Looking at Aiken's today - they have the FW avail as a pre-order with a release date of 12/31/15. Not sure how long that's been there, but first time I've noticed it.

I passed on the Harrier (canopy doesn't open?!) but the 190 still has my interest.

That blurred picture is the one used for the proposed "kit" from about two years ago. $139  is way better than I imagined. But is this the finsihed model or the kit? Very vague. :?

I'd hope the $139 price is for the finished version, but that may be for the kit. For 1:18 it might be a good deal.
Prices for the smaller scales is high from most manufacturers.... how about those 1:48 Franklin Mint FW-190's  http://www.aikensairplanes.com/fw-190-f ... m-b11b231/

Alas, 2015 has come and gone without the FW 190A-F. :(

Yep, no FW-190 in 2015 but we did get a Harrier with QC errors and what I think is a nice 1:16 scale M-ATV vehicle. That Huey repaint was also supposed to be out in December, but no one has it in stock just yet. Just keep playing the waiting game

January is coming to a close and I haven't heard so much as a "coming soon". The silence is not something that would proceed any imminent release. The clock continues to tick with no FW in sight :( .

So much for buying myself a Focke-Wulf 190A-F for Valentines Day. :P

As we've seen with other companies, a prototype can be just a cruel tease that never comes to reality. There must be a financial or supplier issue going on here. It could be something technical we are not aware of as they are still cranking out model kits with some regularity. They probably are tired of making commitments since they have failed each one up to now over the past couple of years. Yes years, not weeks, not months, it's been going on for years, but the silence is still deafening. :x

It's similar to 21st's history, delays seem to be common in this industry.

I heard a few months ago from a reliable source that knows the leadership of Merit that the FW-190 had encountered design issues. There was a disagreement between Merit and its manufacturer over how to tool certain parts of the model that was getting drawn out... For example, Merit wanted to have the panel over the nose guns a separate part that could be switched so they could depict an A-5 or A-8 model (which have different covers over the guns) but the Chinese manufacturer didn't want to do this so they were having to revise their tooling. I heard this 6-8 months ago, before even the Harrier was released, so I have no idea what the status of the plane is now...

I suspect the designer vs. manufacturer issue plays a role more often than we realize in the development and release of a model and is often behind the slow release of models.

Ho-Hum.... :|

Another month is coming to a close and still no FW 190A-F. Our Museum full scale example may be finished first despite being a little more complex.

I gave up on it coming out so I'm now searching for a Dora for my collection. I've lost faith in merit

Merit is in it's death throws. They lost money on the Harrier II and all the old toolings are slow to sell and vendors are having a hard time selling them. I bet in 6 months the prices will be $70.00 - $100.00, then I may buy one, just one. Now they are all over the place in scale making models that only a few people would want. Why, I do not know. 1/6 is cool but how many of those can you buy when they take up 4 feet? There is no way they can break into the 1/32-1/72 scale owned by Tamiya and such, so maybe they will go for more 1/16 or 1/24. Doing it piecemeal is not the way to go. They are diversifying before they are established. IMO

This looks like the Skyworks kit, it looks ok, they should have painted the wings and not just left them factory. They also left the tail extension in from the Dora.... :?

In my opinion and if AV8 Driver's post is accurate, the project is most likely dead.

If I look at my Skyworks FW190-Kit I´m sure this is a custom built model without SW-parts.
The SW-kit is much more detailed.

I just looked at mine and you are right!!

The skyworks kit is very good, so good it gives credibility to the theory that Jack was using a 3d printer, which is fine, but he always denied it for whatever reason.
Here are pics of the Skyworks kit I have. There is no reason someone could not mold it and make kits, or better yet, mold it connected to the 21st Century Dora with the Dora extensions removed and produce kits of the whole plane! The 21st Century Doras are so expensive now it may be cheaper than selling conversion kits!
