Question about old XD Vietnam figures

Long time, no see

Need to pick the brain of the "old timers" around here. I just picked up an auction of all seven of the original 7 XD Vietnam figures (the series with the NVA and VC). When I opened the package, I was surprised that all the figures had painted skin tones rather than cast in "flesh" colored plastic. Does anyone remember these figures being released this way? For some reason, I got wondering if these were some kind of bootlegs, but the guns look the same as my original figures, and the skin tones match my tank driver from the old Walmart M41 set. Just wondering, since I don't remember figures like this in the stores.

It has been a long time, welcome back.
I don't have any of these figures but you got me thinking. Were these figures still carded / orignal packaging?
If so maybe prototypes? If not somebody's custom work?
The few I have seen over the years were flesh colored plastic, cast not painted.

These are all carded figures. I have a couple originals and comparing the two, the packaging looks the same. Definitely not someone's custom work.

Can you post a picture of one of the carded figures and one of the uncarded figures?
We can then see what you are seeing.

To my knowledge they weren't painted the only one that was painted were 2nd wave of platoon. Were the elbows joint cut at 90 degree and you have to rotate it around to make the arms bend

The ones I have from Platoon were painted on. The others I have were molded with the skin tone.

I took a comparison photo of my old VC figure with the new one I just got. Sorry, not the greatest quality since I was using my phone for the photo

I'm sure it is hard to tell from the picture, but the one on the left is my original, with the flesh parts cast in flesh-toned plastic. The one on the right was from the auction - all flesh parts are painted. Again, very similar to the Vietnamese figure that came with the M41 tank. Aside from that, I can't see any differences and can't see any signs of tampering with the blister (such as using the acetone trick to remove the bubble).
