Small Scale Military Headquarters

Started working on my 1/18 TA-183:


Washing parts.


Dremmeling out the nose intake.


Fitting the rear exhaust.

Test fitting the canopy.


The kit I bought doesn't come with a cockpit so I am making a very simple one for display.


Quick test fit.

This is a great kit and not to difficult, just need the time to work on it....thats how all my builds go .

Hey YT that looks great! I see cnq's question about the paint scheme, picking one for me is the most difficult part of the build.
I've got the same 21st Stuka pilot waiting for his plane......

I noticed that too. It does look a bit oversize.

Guys that have the kits in your hands do you think it warrants a retool of the canopy? I have another fuse and wings to lay up this week and then I can work on it. Lmk

It is definitely too big.

I'm sorry to say, yes, the canopy is a bit oversize - I think I already commented on that some time ago; it's about a quarter too tall. The central armor glass of the wind screen should be at the same angle as the nose, it should be a flowing line. Also, the quarter panes should be flat, not slightly curved - the three parts making up the wind screen should all be flat, in fact the arrangement of the entire canopy is rather similar to that of the Fw 190. Hope this helps - and please don't see this as negative criticism, you're doing an absolutely stunning job bringing us this kit!!!

I hold it in my hands. And if I look at the canopy of my Pickelhaube-Panzerjäger Ju87 and the canopys of my D9 and if I look at the first picture from YT I would say too that it is oversized.
If possible to do a smaller one I would like to get two for my two huckebein-Kits.

If we are no learning we are not getting better. I need to grab some supplies and will begin working on a new frame. Once done I will send the new ones out to the guys that have the kits. I will post pics to your thoughts as I go. Nathan

I know very little about the Goblin. But looking at the picture posted in YT's post you are a little off in the height of the canopy.

It looks like YT has his pilot at the correct height and the glass should be about 1/4 inch above the pilot's head and the curvature of the rear canopy ( tear drop ) should be flatter .

All it looks like that needs to be done is cut the frame down in height flatten out the back shape a little.

You may be able to use the same vacuume plug for the glass , just cut more off the bottom of pulled glass.

Unless everything changes once you shorten the height.

I have found when making something it may measure out right but it may not look right . Then it is back to reference pics to get the " look " that is needed.

I as well am not trying to be negative because I will like a full build when my money gets right.

Just want to say that the kits and all the extra parts, especially the RUHRSTAHL X4 and the F14 nozzles are brilliant.

No problem guys, and I hate to say it but it is a little off. I thought that when you showed your proto pics but when I had it in hand, I went back and forth. Sorry for the extra work but I'm glad you are fixing it.

What seems to throw it off is the plastic canopy framing going around the glass; it is too big. The frame should be at the dimensions of the glass and the glass needs to shrink and go inside that, then the line coming back from the nose would have a smoother curve and look more accurate.

What do you all think?

You guys are right, I thought that the first time I saw the pictures but did not want to point it out because sometimes models look more correct in person than in a photo. I thought about making a smaller rear frame and triming the clear plastic to reduce the size but that is all just thoughts untill I get my kit in my hand to actually eyeball.
