Up Armored HUMVEE ( Last Full Builds Done !! ? )
Hey Guys,
I got the Bronco kit in and I have found out that my ole reliable turret will not work so I need to make everything from scratch.
No big deal this I can do.
I am having trouble finding good close up pics of the uparmored doors . I have been searching and searching on the web.
The Bronco kits come with the single step out ballistic glass frame I need good shots of the multi step out doors with all of the bells and whistles.
If I can get good pics of this it will help.
I can not find any kits of this on ebay as well.
Here are a few good pics of the " new " glassed turret.
Not sure if you can notice in the pics but the turret walls are asymmetrical as well as the flash guard right behind the gun pintel. I thought that this was a mistake in the Bronco kit but they got it right.

This is the M-1114 I will be trying to emulate

No we never took it down.
I can transfer pics but not down load.
Hopefully next week.
This is a real problem because we use the comp for work and when we do take it down we are shut down.

Re: Up Armored HUMVEE Project
So only 2 guys who are interested in this project ?
I sold about 60 of the original turrets over the years maybe this has flooded the market.
My est. price will be about $ 35-$40 for the turret.
Doors about $24 and the rest of the parts may be in line with their 1/35 scale brethren at 194 % bigger in size
I have been waiting for the Jagpanther kit to arrive . In the meantime I have put a little time into the turret and my original turret is way off from the new one with glass. The new turret is taller and the asymmetrical sides come in more at the front crowding the gun pintel.
The originals were a bit more open letting shrapnel into the gunner.
I still don't have a way to down load pics. I was supposed to bring the comp down but things never do work out the way I want to.

Re: Up Armored HUMVEE Project
I'm in for full set too.
Re: Up Armored HUMVEE Project
Pickelhaube,
I'm still interested, but would like to know a little bit more about the kits, because I'm not as skilled as others for the remaining work to install and finish the kit on my BBI Humvees.
Are the original doors to be removed from the vehicle, or is your kit to be cemented on the original doors? Same question for the reinforced radiator grille and headlights.
If you need help for the pics, and if you have them in your computer, you can send me an email to my private email address and I could bring them into this topic.

My plan is to make " glue on " door panels with a filler that will fit on the inside door window frame to make it the correct size.
I will try to make them so they just glue on , no sanding or alternating of the original . IF POSSIBLE .
So I will probably have to make door skins that fit on the appropriate door ( 21st, BBI ) and make the bumps and frames as separate pieces.
I also will probably have to make indivisual frame armor per vehicle.
As far as the armor grille , I will make the larger grill that should just glue on as well with separate clear resin head lamps. ( that will be determined ) I rather not do the painted silver build idea but you never know. BBI did it on their stock issue.
Board member Slogan is graciasly letting me barrow one of his GI Joe and PTE ( ? ) HUMVEES to see if I can make the kits for these units as well.
I am glad to see more interest
Just pulled this up the Ultimate HUMVEE up armored kit !!!!

Re: Up Armored HUMVEE Project
No interest in the futuristic HUMVEE I see !!!!!
Some day I will build that thing for my personal collection.
Anyway I have been chipping away on building the new upgrade HUMVEE turret .
It is a good thing that I went ahead and purchased the model kit . The turrets are not close at all in size to each other . The foot print is close but everything else is different.
It is apparent when I have them side by side . The new turret is quite a bit taller .
The only thing that I was able to use off of the original ( ole reliable ) is the actual turret ring which works with the BBI and 21st HUMVEES .
Slogan is sending me of the other 2 HUMVEES on the market so the new turret will fit ALL of the HUMVEES on the market.
I am acutally almost done with the new turret but have a few things to finish.
Things left to do on the new upgraded turret :
1. Make socket cap to cover TOW rocket hole
2. Readjust pintel and mounting bracket for weapons system
3. Make frames for front shield.
I am still messing around with the tint for the ballistic glass.
I have ordered new tint that has a blueish tint to it. The green is close but I want to see if I can get it closer.
On some pics the glass looks to be almost clear and some that blue/green look like you see on cars driving down the street.
The newer MRAPs have even a darker green that they use. If I ever do one, I now have the perfect tint for it !!!
Hopefully next week I can resolve my picture posting problem to see the new turret.
It does have all the bells and whistles

Re: Up Armored HUMVEE Project
Hey Guys ,
Just finished up one of the last Jagdtigers and it is off to the painters , so I had some time to put on this project.
My original turret was cast in one piece .
This caused havoc on the molds used .
So this turret will be made in 35 pieces and you may or may not have to glue the actual shell together.
I am not sure about that yet.
The glass frames are separate so you will be able to paint them separate then pop in the tinted glass then glue to the super strutcher .
The mirrors will be possible . Right now they look a little sloppy because of the mounts.
But the mounts will be tightened up in the molding process.
These same mirrors will also be used for the main vehicle.
Price $45 ?
Here you go.

Re: Up Armored HUMVEE Project Pics !!
Thanks guys for the kind remarks.
IF there is an interest in purchasing the turret please pm me ASAP.
That will determine how fast this will go into production .
In the meantime I will be working on the other parts of the upgrade.
As always I accept lay-aways.

Re: Up Armored HUMVEE Project Pics !!
FINALLY the wrong has been righted.
Why did 21st make the wrong front grill for their HUMVEE ?
Only the designer knows .
Here you go guys the correct front armored grill .
This will also fit on ALL of the HUMVEES on the market.
BBI
Forgot to check an off brand HUMVEE
Armored grill with IBIS Tec bumper. The bumper can be used with or without the new grill. Both uses are correct.
Both need a little more work . I wanted to post some progress pics.
BTW
The head lamps will be cast in clear resin so they will look the part !!
