Does the World Need a New Me-163 and Do-335 In 1/18th Scale?
Hey Guys,
It has been another year and no Me-163 . Will Pegasis make it ? Will anybody else ?
Should I make mine ?
Also a buddy of mine is about 75 % done with a 1/18th Do-335 ( he is the guy who bought the Ho-229 project and brought one of the Hortens to last years IPMS Contest ).
He may just pass it on to me to finish .
Is there any interest in any of this late war German birds ?

Well, they got a new 163 in 1/32 last year, and a Do335 is scheduled for this Fall/Winter, so yeah I think so.
A Do335 in 1/18 would be enormous, dude.

Lots of advantages to the 163. Small, no props, no complicated landing gear, simple cockpit, one big wing with no horizontal stablizer are several. The 335 would be a massive undertaking.

I agree the 163 would be easier but Mathew said the Do335 is already 75% done?
I really hope Mathew finishes it and produce some kits of it! That would be amazing hanging next to the Ho-229

Even know I'd probably won't be able to afford it
It would awesome to see a 335 in 1/18!

I'd be in for both a Me 163 and Do 335. And has anyone ever thought of doing a He 162 or Ar 234? And I'd certainly also be most interested in a Ba 349.

The ME163 is an absolute must. I'm doubtful that Merit or Pegasus will ever make one in 1:18. There was the SkyJerks example (I even had the kit at one point) but it was an odd design and poor tooling. You could do so much better, Pickelhaube!

The 163 is on my wish list as well.

Sign me up for a Do 335 if you decide to go for it. I thought about it once using the FW190 shell and trying to
convert it but beyond my skill level at this point

Sounds like there is some intrest in you finishing that Do-335 Mathew!
The Do-335 is very cool and historicly importiant, it did fly many times and is the fastest prop plane in WWII. There are many accounts of pilots claiming they surpased 500mph in dives which may be true but the level flight airspeed should be what counts as far as records go. It was also the only push-pull fighter ever made.

I remember Crazy Kraut built a Do-335, it was a resin kit from MPM in the Czech Republic.

Re: Does the World Need a New Me-163 and Do-335 In 1/18th Sc
2013 in some kind of extrem brainlessness I thought it is time to smaller my collection. With nearly all of my custom built and painted models the Do335 goes away too.
I swear I only did it for the money
For that I would/could kick me everyday in my silly ass.
Now I´ve got Me163, STuka Tankbuster, the Horten and hopefully the Huckebein but missing the Do335 real badly.
But now Matthew wants to help me/us out of the pain. THANK GOD!!!
A good friend of mine in Austria still got one unbuilt kit of the MPM/HPH DO335.
But he would never give this kit out of his hands. It is rare and expensive to get and normaly you can only buy ready built HPH models (for approx. 2500 US$ or more).
They fear copying the models or parts with 3D-scan and print technics.
I can ask him for measures of the single parts and maybe some detailed photos, if needed.

Thats a shame you parted with it Crazy Kraut, you dont by chance know the buyer orcan get in touch with them? Perhaps they would be willing to loan it or rent it for long enough to make molds of it.?

Re: Does the World Need a New Me-163 and Do-335 In 1/18th Sc
I am in Los Angeles right now but my buddy has started the 335 . He has started the model as a balsa build ( just like I did my 229 ) .
He has it built and coovered with balsa skin. Now the shape has to be refined and styrene skin applied.
My buddy wants to go in with me on the Komet ( I have my proto 95 % done ) and I am not to sure in jumping off of the edge to make it.
As far as the 335 goes .We are talking about him passing it to me and me finishing the build .
But that is how far that we have gone with the project.
