NORMANDY;

If I remember correctly, FOV's 1/16 King Tigers were originally around $375, and now they're going for around $1,400.

And besides, the ALIENS APC comes with TWO pieces of Alien roadkill.

I think anything coming out of china is going to cost big bucks from here on out, with or without roadkill. :P

I agree with Normandy that this seems to be the new norm for this stuff, but $500 for a basically static model with no interior, I just can't justify it. I am no cheapo by a long shot, trust me I have spent more than a few $ on this hobby - even still while I am sure it will sell out quickly, I just don't see the $500 in it. Split Alien body or not

Well for $300 you can have it as kit with a hollowed out interior. At 1:20th scale its currently the closest match you can find. Sometimes this kit shows up on ebay from time to time.

That kit for $300 why 1 / 20th scale ?

Probably would have sold a lot more in 1/18th.

Looks to be a crazy easy build compared to some of the things I have gotten myself into.

Given that $500 is a lot but with a WW production of 350 pieces, at least 3/4 of the sales will be to guys never even taking the APC out of the box, hoping to resell it at a big profit.

Think about the 1/6 Aliens Power Loader with Ripley inside. That bad boy sold for $250 when it came out at a time when 1/6 21C figs were going for $15-25 and even a RC Stuart could be had for $75-100. Prices now for the Power Loader, in the box, are up to around $1,800 even with the Ripley that does not look like Ripley because Miss Weaver would not license her likeness until very recently.

I love the APC but I might wait for the 1/6 version............ but I do have that hole in my 1/18 shelf.... I wonder....

THREETHOUGHTRUCKS:

Yep, NECA announced they're releasing a Ripley figure this year. My guess is it will be 1/12 with her in a spacesuit---I doubt Weaver would approve of her in her underwear at the end of movie.

I've seen Weaver topless in another movie and she has nothing to be conceted about...... perky.

If you are a fanatic about accuracy, there are 1/6 heads that can go right on the older bodies. One from Alien, one from Aliens and one with a buzz cut from Aliens 3. The are a very good likeness. For $150 for her head, I'll live with the older "her" as found in the Power Loader. I recently found a Power Loader with Ripley that had all the hydraulics snapped off in the back of the loader. Sure was cheap enough and found a set of metal "nips" to replace the plastic that tends to break. You can find anything in the world on eBay... :P

THREETOUGHTRUCKS:

What movie was Weaver topless in?

Here's NECA's official announcement about Ripley which says her in the NOSTROMO jumpsuit and then ALIENS.

"ALIEN 35TH ANNIVERSARY
As part of the 35th anniversary celebration of the ground-breaking movie ALIEN, NECA will release the first-ever action figures of main character Ellen Ripley that feature the likeness and approval of actress Sigourney Weaver, who was nominated for an Oscar® and Golden Globe® for ALIENS in 1987. Initial plans include a figure of Ripley in her Nostromo jumpsuit from the original 1979 film, to be followed later by a Ripley figure based on the 1986 movie ALIENS, directed by James Cameron. Prototypes will debut later this summer at San Diego Comic-Con."

I agree with Pickel 20th scale is just a tad too small? Then again as Pickel also stated its a fairly easy model to build. Many of the surfaces are relatively flat at various angles. It would actually be the interior that would pose the greatest challenge of all. Of course if I had a APC on hand I would definitely look into building out the mildly massive 4D-4L Cheyenne Dropship to go along with it. You just can't have one with out the other in my honest opinion. With that said I do currently own the 1/6 Power Loader with Ripely currently behind the controls. Though very impressive with its overall size, extensive level of detail and full range of articulation still looks terribly out of place on the shelf without a Queen Alien to battle all within the same scale. Of course that in itself would be quite a build being organic and all.

Heck not to brag but I even own an all metal version of the pulse rifle with firing trigger and case along with the motion tracker. Just need the armor to go along with it all. Of course the M56 Smart gun with guidance head set would be a nice touch to the collection. :D

dragon:

As a movie expert, I am surprised you missed a few of her movies. Like most actresses, Sigourney Weaver has done more than her share of nude scenes. Two of her nude scenes that come to mind took place in "Death and the Maiden" and "Half Moon Street". Both were not flashes but long scenes. Modesty prohibits me to provide more details on this "family" site.

As in most of her Alien parts, her hair is distinctly different lengths in more than role, so different head sculpt must be made.

I'm assuming 1/20 was the choice because whoever cranked that kit out wanted a more popular existing scale in modeling.

I'd rather see a toy company crank out one and take my chances there... Hiya Toys is making Aliens, so anything is possible. I'd be happy with just some figures though, honestly. I know they're considering the power suit at least, so there's that too. The APC, At least it'd not be terribly hard to scratch build I guess.

THREETOUGHTRUCKS:

I've seen Weaver in only a few movies----ALIEN, ALIENS and GHOSTBUSTERS. I've heard of HALF MOON STREET and saw part of her other ALIEN movies.

The only 100% way I would see Weaver in another movie was if she starred in TORA! TORA! TORA!: PART 2, THE SEQUEL.

My point is that if she does appear in Tora Tora Part 2, nobody would even confuse Weaver with the mountains the Japanese planes fly between on the way to Pearl Harbor.

THREETOUGHTRUCKS:

I'll look for the Weaver scenes on Youtube.

By the way, there's a raunchy movie on Youtube starring Kelly McGillis (TOP GUN) in which she's very friendly with another woman----proof positive that life imitates art.

$500 is a lot money. But, you can get the "Alien" bluray for just 1% of the cost of that big APC. The upgraded bluray version was awesome and it was like watching a new film.

Just a little side note adding to the other little size notes.
