What is your Favorite WW 1 Plane ?

Post by pickelhaube » Tue Sep 03, 2013 5:31 am

It was very sad when Admiral went out before they went into their WW1 plane series.

WW1 is actually my favorite war period.

I would love to see a complete ( if possible ) line of planes and armor.

For now what is your favorite WW1 era plane?

I will put up some of the most popular

It could be unfair to pit Allied against Axis but , oh well.

WW1 will have it's 100 year anniversary next year 1914-2014

Although most of these planes were created around 1917 ( 1918 for the razor )

My fav would have to be the DR-1
Kirk Douglas : Mine hit the ground first
John Wayne : Mine was taller

I went for the camel, but I would only purchase one if it came with a certain canine pilot :P

While I voted for the Albatros, I really like the looks of the SPAD too. I got the Matchbox 1/48 SPAD when it came out and pretty much fell in love with it. Great looking plane. I think a company called Authentic Models produces completed models of the SPAD, Dr.1, Jenny and Sopwith in several scales. The wheels are badly out of scale on the Dr.1 and for me it's just hard not to notice.

I vote for "None of the Above".

Since I was a kid..... yes, long ago I was a kid, I loved the Bristol Fighter, known as the "Brisfit". Stood against the best and served the longest until the late 1920's.

Easy enough for me... I've long been a fan of the Sopwith Camel. The whole Snoopy connection, the fact that I knew what one was when I was very young, its proven combat record, etc. Also, when I lived in England, I lived in/near Kingston-upon-Thames, which was where the Sopwith aircraft factory was once based 8)

Runner-ups would be the Fokker DR I (which obviously pairs well with the Camel) as well as the Spad.

I went with the SPAD XIII..
Reminds me of when my grandfather & I used to play a board game called "Dogfight!"
I always used 94th Aero Squadron. That was a long time ago...

I had the "Snoopy and the Red Baron skill and action marble game."
Later, I moved on to PanzerBlitz and Panzer Leader. Interesting games, felt I like I learned a lot from them and Kriegsspiel.

I also use to play Dogfight! small world.

I voted but in all reality I probobley not buy a 1/18 WWI airplane. Im to crazy about my collections and if I got that started I would be screwed. I would get divorced and fall off the grid and end up begging for money to buy more balsa wood out in front of HobbyLobby

When I finish my 1/16 armor collection and my 1/18 WWII airplane collection I think I will start collecting Wing Nut Wings WWI models. They are wonderful kits and in 1/32 still nice size and the best part is the variety and they even make a Gotha in 1/32 8)

2 year old post .

Maybe 2016 could be the year for 1/18th WW 1 !!!!!!!!

I am thinking figures planes and tanks of course if there is interest.

There is not a lot of interest here or on Fighting 18th ( more interest here ) but I do know there is a lot of interest in the A7V by other military collectors .

Don't have the room for WWI, but a worthy time period, and shame that there aren't more options available.

The Corgi 1/48 series did seem popular, but other than that, I think it is expensive Kind & Country ?
