They will probably make the announcement on the last day of the last hour at the last minute of April. At least that's what the count down clock is telling me.

Not trying to be a dick about this but I have gotten some intel on this and I know what the new jet will be ( if the intel is correct ).

But I am sworn to secrecy and I will let Jim take it.

Unless my inside guy said I can spill the beans.

BTW I will be getting it and I am not a modern plane guy.

Sorry for being impatient but may I ask whats the hold up? We already know so much already. Are they trying to get pictures of it first before spilling the beans?

Well if Pickelhaube has intel on the new jet, then it is definitely not an A-10. :(

Yes no A-10 .

That is kind of relief because if we would have gotten deeper it would have been bad.

I hope this aircraft will be mind blowing. I check this post twice a day in hopes of figuring the mystery aircraft out.

So let me get this straight. So far we know:

It's not a present day jet.
It's a single seater (?).
it's twin engined.

Correct?

The one seater hasn't been confirmed, and you left out 2 engines, and that rules out the U-2...

Well I just noticed the single seat comment by Merit on Facebook. It was hidden from view. Goes to show how often I use Facebook. lol

So...

- It couldn't be the F-15, A-4 or the Su-27/J-11 since those were all revealed as two seaters.
- Not an A-10 according to Jim and later confirmed by pickelhaube.
- I don't think it would be an F-18 Super Hornet. Too close to what we already have now.

What could it be then...(My own thoughts based on American aircraft that currently comes to mind)

- AV-8B Harrier II
- F-22 Lighting
- F-5 Tiger
- F-117
-

The F-5 seems to be the most likely one out of the bunch though due to its size and simplicity which makes it ideal to mass produce. Its also not as modern compared to the rest.

One point to add however, is if they decide to do away with the second seat depicted on the F-15 prototype possibly to save on production costs then it could still be fair game.

It could be a F-15C. And if it is, I would DEFINITELY buy one. There would be some significant modification though. In addition to eliminating the rear seat and fixing the canopy, they would (should)also have to eliminate the conformal fuel tanks or at the very least, remove the BRU-46s and BRU-47s (bomb racks). Some F-15C units did fly with CFTs but building that albatros would be a bad marketing strategy.

I hope it's not an F5. It is just a boring jet with a less than glorious combat history, unless you are into reinacting the heroic exploits of the Ethiopian pilots against the Somali Air Force in the late 70's. I would be more excited about a T-38.

If the new jet is single seat and we assume that they dont modify the J11 and F15E to be single seat, the my only hope is for a Mig 21 or Mig 29.

Good point on the extra modifications. Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the F-5 either but I guess beggars can't be choosers. lol

Actually, in all honesty I would take an F-5 over another repaint any day.

Alright, well it's not a dead giveaway, but it is 2 engine, and one seater...
