Ahhh... yikes, I didn't realize it was that massive. I don't think that would even fit in my garage let alone my man cave.

More news just in...

http://forums.fighting118th.com/showpos ... stcount=57

The Fighting 1:18th:
$250-$300, LIKELY 1st quarter of 2014, MAY come holidays 2013 but don't hold your breath.

It's going to have ELECTRONICS! Running lights etc. I am guessing this contributed to lengthening the time frame.

There are panels in place where you can see the engine stuff, they took some liberties to allow for that.

No word on livery yet. Will try to press more on that front, though at this point I'm guessing they don't even have a solid answer.

This is one of their test mock ups.. so it's not final. They get these, fix them, and send them back to China. One is on its way right now with some fixes and tweaks. Sounds like a tedious process.

I'm expecting to hear more information on the FW-190 A5 soon. We do know at this point it will be released sometime around September.

Hey, Beeavision:

I'm going to be in Winter Park next week visiting my wife's grandmother and helping with some household stuff. When I used to live there I would visit Colonial Photo & Hobby to buy plastic kits but last time I was in town (March 2013) they had cut back on their inventory pretty hard. Are there any other hobby shops in the area (I'll drive anywhere in Orlando itself plus up through Longwood) that currently still carry a decent selection of kits? I'm pretty much in the 1/32-1/35 WWII military part of the spectrum.

And that goes for any of you other Floridians living between Gainesville and Orlando along 441: Any shops along the way I could stop in during my drive, or should I save some time and just stay on I-75 until I reach my destination? I moved away in '96 so I suspect the places I knew are gone now.

There is:

- Graves RC http://www.gravesrc.com/

- Central Florida Hobby shop http://www.orlandohobbyshop.com/

- Hobby Town USA http://www.hobbytown.com/Sanford-FL/

- The Hobby Spot http://www.thehobbyspot.com

- Bob's Hobby Center http://www.bobshobbycenter.com/

It seems most of the hobby shops in this area cater to RC plane, car, and train enthusiasts but you can call them ahead of time to be sure they have what you looking for before making the drive out to each one.

I've actually been to Central FL Hobby; they are pretty much RC. I recall going into a place on Fairbanks Ave in Winter Park near where the old Fairbanks Inn used to be, but I can't remember the name and didn't have a chance to swing by last time I was in town. They did have a bunch of plastic. The Hobby Spot might be it, but the web site is not loading so I don't know.

Are they going to be putting out the FW190 at the show? I would have thought they'd already have it on display by now.

EDIT: Hobby Spot's web site is down; they've also moved to the corner of 436 and Colonial. If you're interested, they still carry plastic kits and supplies.

If you ever make it out to Fairbanks checkout Skycraft. Its the building with a flying soccer on the roof just off of I-4. They have a lot of great stuff worth looking into.

Actually have been in there a couple of times with some friends who liked to mess around with surplus electronics gear, but that was back in the late 80's.

They actually have a surplus in all kinds of plastics and metals too along with other raw materials if you ever plan on scratch building anything.

Lovin the detail in the Harrier prototype so far. I'm just stoked that we're getting something new in 1:18. I'm glad Merit jumped in the game!

There is no FW-190 at SDCC.. not sure why, the only answer I got was it was being made at a different factory and should be ready well before the AV-8B.

The Me-262 and F-86 were on display, and I should hopefully have pics up tomorrow. I don't know WWII schemes so you'll have to enlighten me.

Tony @ Merit was super nice as per usual, answering all my questions (for the most part) and sharing his love for the hobby.

He does not share the love for an A-10 in 1:18 though!

Greetings:

The Harrier prototype looks good...however....

I agree with what someone else has said, $250-$300 price point is near crazy. I don't mind spending money on planes do not get me wrong. but that price point for a plastic model is high. The F-14, a much bigger piece, wasn't even that much.

And honestly, I'm not sold on the electronics on these planes. Who cares! I don't know why we need electronics on these models, they aren't kid's toys like the old Star Trek light up ships. To me, that's just an unnecessary accessory to be an issue and to add to the cost.

Don't get me wrong, I know costs have gone up. But I think this is extreme. I also do not think electronics are needed. And as someone said, more flimsy plastic gear, not good. For this price, the gear should be metal. No excuses.

Looks like I'm done with 1/18 at these prices.

Not a fan of this one, was hoping for a Strike Eagle but, for that price it should come with a pilot and metal landing gear. Looks like Pizzaguy will have some more work to do for you Harrier guys.
