HUEY-Battle Damage??

Post by Star56 » Fri Mar 08, 2013 8:53 pm

Hey guys,

Got my Huey from BadCat. The model was well packed and completely sealed/unopened.

My question is this, is the model supposed to be nicked and paint chipped to simulated battle use? Mine has quite a lot of paint chipping (silver showing through) and the Ace white background is also significantly chipped?

This thing looks like it did 4 tours of Nam :)

Otherwise the thing is really cool.

Tom

Got any pictures of it?

Mine should be here Monday. I hope this doesn't become a chip-cat ordeal! ;-)

Although I do not have one I have heard that is how they are painted.

With a weathered chipped paint effect.
Kirk Douglas : Mine hit the ground first
John Wayne : Mine was taller

If that's how it's suppose to look, then I might just get one, sounds pretty cool!

Pickel,

Thanks for that input! I am betting it is on-purpose also. It is too noticable to be from mishandling when packing.

Actually, I believe the "paint chip" weathering effect is supposed to be standard... Take a look at the photos of the actual unboxed product from TheFlyingMule:

I will admit, it looks a lot like the sort of QC defects that were particular annoyances on these models during the 21c days, but the marks on the JSI Huey seem to be made on purpose.

Yes mine is just like the unboxed one! This confirms that it is supposed to look that way.

Received mine today and it looks good. They gave it weathering effects with light shading, chips, and even the pieces painted silver have a sort of umber wash on them to give them a worn/used look. Overall I am very pleased. Probably better weathering than I can do right now ;-)
Definitely not a spotcat fiasco. :-D

Meh, could be worse. At least the JSI factory that produced the Huey didn't do this:

Has anyone thought of making the Heads Up Display for the gunner on one of these?

just a note the Huey's are pretty much gone at Merit. Just ordered another 20 and Merit said thats it all gone no reorder planned. So if your looking to get one better grab them while you can. Other wise when supply gets short prices go way up

Yes, the gun sight system will be interesting.

The showing of "dull silver" = paint chip effect on purposely put on.

Thank you for your support, it is true that we are almost out of stock on the Huey and the SBD-3 Midway.
