New 1/6 Sherman 105

Post by Threetoughtrucks » Wed Jan 23, 2013 4:03 pm

I know you are out there...... you guys interested in more than 1/18.

DML is bringing out a 1/6 Sherman 105 in March 2013. Advertised as a kit so that should cause alot of interest. No word on price yet.

http://www.dragonmodelsusa.com/dmlusa/p ... d=DRA75046

Since the first 1/6 Sherman came out with alot more parts to assemble to be sold as "assembled", I have my doubts about this as a kit.

Price will tell. If it sells for $500+ as the S1 Sherman did, then it is "assembled" even if they call it a kit. If it sells for $3-400, then it is a kit. We will see......... Frankly, I can't see them parting the S2 when the S1 had so many freaken parts.

I love the S1 and will get the S2 even if I don't have the room without getting rid of something.... maybe my PC and desk.

So I wonder how many pices would be in a Sherman kit? The Dragon Panzer II kit had over 700 and thats a bit smaller tank

Bad Cat's price is more like it.

As to the number of pieces in a 1/6 Sherman, I would bet that there would not be much more pieces than the M4A4 Sherman, which they called "assembled" but had so many parts it was serious work. Advantage to having kit would be having no glue welds to break on all the hatches.

I still haven't finished with the driver/asst driver hatches. Finally broke the welds but still haven't finished locating and installing periscopes.

Disadvantage will probably be the kit being unpainted. I'll still get the "kit", if no other reason than to get one as an investment. 8)

Since I did not want to buy the M4a3 until it was a kit... I will really like this.

I do want one with a standard 75mm. Basically, all I would have to do is get a replacement mantlet and gun?

My dad is a big tank lover, this looks like a good gift for him but the price is a bit much, I wonder how much I can get out of my M5 to get this tank for him...

Latest price info seems to tell us why it is relatively cheap..... It comes unpainted. Rats..... foiled again.

Mrs. TTT does all my detail painting, she will freak if I were to try to have her paint this Sherman.

I am not a big fan of the 105 rendition , but I know somebody who can makes some modifications on it.

I think that I may pull the trigger on this . :D

More stuff to consider......... another project for my shelf, just what I need. Should I pratcice my painting skills on a monster tank? Should I buy this Sherman at all? Should I finish the 1S Sherman sitting in my man cave now? Should I finish the Steiner I just got? Should I put together Pickel's M-10? Pickel's quad 20mm? More painting!!!!! Should I buy a new car? Should I buy more guns? Should I buy myself a younger/healther body for this tired brain?

You guys are not helping.. too much to consider..

My head hurts...

Keep your priorities straight... Buy more guns and ammo before you can't do that anymore. Its not likely 1:6 Sherman tanks and toy soldiers will draw the attention of the US Government

So I see Badcat also has a prebuilt 1/6 Sherman with a 75MM gun - $799.99!
I know it's big, but is it worth that kind of money?
Tman & TTT - What level of detail are we talking about? I'm not particularily an armor guy, but I do have a decent collection of 1/32 FOV & 21st...I would really love to have a 1/6 scale Sherman, just because of how impressive it would be.
But, again, is it worth the money - I'm not a modeler, so it's prebuilt or nothing!

Level of detail in these DML tanks is SUPER. I can't recall any negative feedback on detail these tanks from Dragon. Great models... OK, it's large. We all know the size of the 21C Stuart in 1/6. This Sherman is like the 21C Stuart's big brother. Not as big as the 1/6 Tigers, or King Tigers (non DML) that are around with prices that are much higher than these DML models. That is the big news, that DML came out with a PZ II in 1/6 with reasonable prices, followed that with a kit and then with a DAK PZ II which corrected a few minor problems (minor fittings that did not fit correctly) and then the "assembled" Sherman which should have been called a painted "kit" with the many many parts and now this 105 Sherman as a unpainted kit.

I have the first Sherman and am very happy with it even though I customized the pre built with adding mg's and pried open the front hatches and am adding periscopes........ as soon as I have time.

I also have the DAK PZ II which is perfect as is, only added a crew and supporting DAK troops.
