The other day, I completed a 1:18 scale German Kettenkrad & trailer kit from one of board member grunt1's Shapeways 3D printing kits. I went with the German Army gray as it would go with the majority of my 1:18 German figures & vehicles. Enjoy :D

After seeing the pictures, I can see I missed a few hard-to-reach spots...

Depends on how steep a hill you roll it down.

Very cool and I like that you did it in German gray. Did you use decals for the Balkenkreuz or paint by hand?

Thanks for the kind comments, everyone!

To answer grunt1's question, the Balkenkreuz are decals from John's Stuff. (I still have fragments of several sets that I keep around for various projects). Using Micro Sol to set the decal and then a spray of dullcoat after it dries helps blend the decal pretty well. I wish I had small lettering and numbering to make the ID plate, but that will have to be another custom...

Helicopter Pilot, the Kettenkrad kit from Shapeways (including vehicle body & front wheel set) costs about $88 and the trailer costs about $24. You'll need paint, but not really any glue. I got the kettenkrad during on of the 20% off sales and so it cost me a bit less. Lots of great stuff to order - and build - from grunt1's site: http://www.shapeways.com/shops/battlegroundtoys?s=0

Question: does anyone have any leads for the license plate decals??

I worked with Peddinghaus decals to get both the rear and curved front fender license plate decals. He has an existing Kettenkrad decal sheet that just needs to be resized for 1:18, which he will do on request. If you choose to contact him, make sure to give him specific measurements that you need. Don't simply ask for 1:18 as the interpretation of what 1:18 is, especially with decals, varies quite a bit.

More info:

Peddinghaus decals in 1/16 are available at retailers like great models:

Here is the Kettenkrad set in 1/16 for reference:

He can re-size them to 1:18, or in your 1:18-ish exact measurements, contact Ernst directly at: [email protected] with your specific measurements and he will send you a price.

Great Models is no longer in business. They were brought out by an other etailer, Spruce Brothers. I am not sure if they sell the decals but they always had great customer service and prices.

You can get them directly from Peddinghaus. Again I'd make sure to contact them first to make sure these fit even though they are marked 1:18 on the decal sheet.
