Avenger Part Needed- wing hinge assy

Post by mikeg » Sat Nov 17, 2012 11:13 am

starboard, right, pass side black plastic two piece assembly wanted- it's got #28 on top from the navy set of five. It doen't matter the plane, they are all the same. I want to blame the cat, but I think it was a display failure. If you have one of these or a right wing assy let me know, thanks mikeg

Sorry, don't have the part to spare, but certainly sounds like you had a similar accident to what happened to my Flight 19 Avenger (also FT-28). I was trying to fold the right wing back up on my plane when the hinge completely shattered. Weak, if not fatigued plastic was likely the cause. Given that was my 2nd favorite Avenger, I was ticked, but eventually just glued both wings into the extended position.

The wing hinge on the 21c Avenger is a marvel of toy engineering with its complexity and accuracy, but really, 21c could have designed it better. Not only does the hinge NOT hold the wings with any dihedral, they are weak and easily prone to breakage. The wings were always the weakest point of the 21c Avenger, in my opinion...

The hinge on my Avenger is broken as well. I've expeimented with a number of fixes but none of them have actually worked. I think I'm just gonna have to glue it in position and call it good.

no offers or pm's so far in a wing or hinge assy, so I went ahead and fixed a landing strut with a finishing nail and some epoxy. I'll probably scuff the upper inner sections of the wing and use some epoxy to glue it; I have some small, clear sections of rubber hose to insert in the separation points on the bottom- to set the dihedral and just dabble some epoxy on the top and leave it at that- maybe

I think I'll try this- I've epoxied the wood to the lower wing section and will probably use an appropriately sized tiny screw (or two) through the wing into the wood section, dremel the screw head down, and match the paint- and see how that works.

I think I'll just try the epoxy instead, the screw idea is a little weak

Ok, I'm happy it seems to have worked fine- the strut and the wing are holding-
