Small Scale Military Headquarters

Im starting a new thread as the old one was getting to long.

I have just finished a project I am proud of and was totally impossible without the great work that has been done by Battleground Toys and Pickelhaube Customs. Together they are keeping the scale alive and I am very thankful!!

To build this Panther I bought 3 sets of the fantastic IR scope & searchlight sets from Battleground Toys; http://www.shapeways.com/model/628066/? ... terialId=6
A fantastic deal! All shipped to my house for under $40!!

I also purchased Pickelhaube Customs excellent late war stamped road wheel set for the Panther, also shipped to my house for under $40!! another incredible deal for an incredible kit!!

The up-armored turret deck and intakes were custom made, as were the IR equipment mounts for the gunner and the driver.
I also installed an engine from a 1/18 Tiger I.
I also built a custom 1/18 "Vampyr" soldier to support the Panthers night operations

That is one awesome piece of custom work. It's really cool to products from different members on display in one masterfully finished piece.

I love all of the late war details. The covers over the rear deck mechanicals and turret top were essential as allied air superiority became the biggest threat. The wiring you attached to the scopes looks really natural too. Nice work!

Back in the early 80's I started my Army career as a '19E (On the old M60 series)
and I remember being "amazed" that the Germans had some "decent" night-
capability on some of their tanks almost 4 decades earlier (!)

Granted, it wasn't TIS/TTS but heck....beat the hell out of white-light engagements!

I used a technique I came up with, I call it "dusting". I use two high dust primers (ruddy brown and Grey) both in spray cans from walmart, I spray it over the top and let the particles sprinkle down on it like snow. switch back and forth two or three times and end on grey. Then when totally dry wet sand the top lightly to smooth and bring out the red which looks like old rust and new rust. I use to use mig pigments to get the same result but this is faster and looks better and is cheaper.

Thanks, yes it is already sold but thank you, always feel free to message me about upcoming projects as I don't do consignment work but always reserve projects like this one for those who are interested in owning one. Only projects that are not already spoken for ever reach my Etsy shop. I try to stay away from eBay these days.

Thanks for your complements on the model. However I have been doing this since 2007 and its actually the opposite of what you insinuated. The prices may be up on some things but the economy is not and nor is the money that these customs will fetch, its down, by half or more. I do them because I enjoy it, if I calculated all my costs and my time I am at or around minimum wage with most projects.

Thanks! I used several other builds I found on reputable sites for inspiration but mainly this picture with the addition of the late wheels and the up-armor.

This is a 109 I have been working on for awhile and have finally completed. It is a G-2 of JG-54 in Russia, late 1942. I wanted to make a "workhorse" 109 and so I set out to do just that. Not allot of fancy paint just lots of use, day in and day out. Extensive weathering, exhaust, stenciling and dry brushing. Made a custom pilot to boot and swapped out the factory cannons for metal ones. Yes this 109 is already spoken for.

Jon, How did you customize the pilot in the BF-109? It fills up that cockpit space in a way the small BBI figure doesn't seem to do. Does it still use the body of the BBI pilot figure? I can tell its a different head. Thanks
