Will the World Ever see a Mi-24 Hind in 1/18th Scale ?

Post by pickelhaube » Wed Nov 14, 2012 4:37 pm

OK not much going on so it is time for another poll that may or may not happen.

How much are you guys willing to pay for a Hind kit. ?

This is a big bird and I am considering the idea of making a fiberglass shell.

If I were to do this I would take the existing $79.99 shell enlarge it scribe detail and make the rest of the parts.

The 1/16 kit is about $550 and is supposed to be missing a lot of parts. Main rotor and hub just to name a few. ( of course it is a flying model so you need to supply those parts) Mine of course would come with the rotor and hub along a full cockpit and ALL of the exterior.

But as most of my kits go will probably not have the interior.

So I am guessing the same $550.

Or ... you could buy the $79.99 special and I would say you would be looking at about a $250 add on kit.

What do you all think ?

The Hind is an incredible aircraft. If I collected modern stuff in 1/18 I would get one. I use to have a 1/18 Apache and it was huge, I can only imagine a Hind.

If you're not interested, don't vote. The whole point of the post was to see who IS interested.

I'd be interested, but it would need to be on the lower end of the prices being presented.

A 1/18 Hind is a holy grail for me so I'm very interested.

I voted for no.2 but to be honest it would probably cost more then that range and I have to factor in overseas shipping too but I'm willing to sell an arm for this one

If at all possible, I would really like a painted full built Hind, similar to PH's Horton options cos I'm really hopeless in painting

People should mind that..

If there is an Add-on kit for 250$, and the Hind body is 80$, it stays under 350$.
So saying you'll buy one for 25-350, should be the same as an add on.

I'd buy a Add-on if it kept the price under 400$.

Which version would you guys prefer ?

The streamlined canopy ( older ) or the double bubble ( newer ) ?

The older version was semi replicated in the original Red Dawn movie using a French helo as a base with applied facade .

The streamlined would be so much easier for me to copy.

That is one evil looking monster. I'd sure hate to have one of those chasing me....

The Hind-D with its 2 bubble top cokpit is the most produced one. I prefer it. Perheaps a more difficult challenge, PH, but think about the fact that the Hind-A has a 4-men cockpit, 2 pilots, 1 gunner (tactical navigator) and 1 observer, this is also more work...

Thanks for the heads up.

I did not know that.

But I guess once I would have stated it would have become abundantly clear.

But there sure is a lot going on in that cockpit tandem or otherwise.

I have a drawing taken from a book (so under copyright), showing the 2 cokpit details side by side, could send it to your private email. They are 11 different windows on the 4-men cokpit and 8 (included the bubbles) on the tandem one...

I have always liked the double bubble but the funny thing is my favorite Hind is not a Hind at all it turns out...

I always assumed that they were real but after reading up on Hinds realized they were not. This page talks about it in depth. http://www.rotaryaction.com/pages/rambo3.html

Its my favorite Hind, I feel bad about saying that but I just like its shortened ugly "pug nose", it makes it look more durable and more like a flying tank. The real thing has that long nose with all that glass that looks more vulnerable in my opinion. If I were you Mathew I would do the double bubble, but it would be hard to not make the Rambo Hind for me

That fake Hind from Rambo is a Cougar right? I don't like the Cougar's design.

Super Hind Mi-35 all the way.

The $39.94 is starting to creep up !!

I went ahead and bit the bullet on the Hind shell.

Let us see what it looks like up close.

Of course all I can do is look at it with my work load now. :?

If I will move forward on it , it will be well after the first of the year. :?

He guys,

I have ordered the $79 special and hopefully it will show up soon.

I ordered if way before Christmas and it has yet to show.

I know that I must be patient because I for one am the worlds worst for getting out orders.

Sometimes my orders are filled but I never have the time to ship because of something or another .

Going to my local post office is shear pain and misery .

They NEVER have enough tellers and when the line gets longer THESY ACTUALLY SLOW DOWN !!!!!

Anyway if this project ever takes off I think it will be the Holy Grail of the 1/18th helo world.

As far as I am concerned these are the 3 " Holy Grails " of the 1/1th world.

M-24 Hind
A-10 Thunderbolt !!
King Tiger

If or when I have done ( with others helping ) these projects I think that we will have made our contribution to the 1/18th world !!!

I kind of feel all warm inside by saying that.

J-New ,

I have always liked the Rat :D

Now I know how most of my customers feel about the long wait for their orders.

At least I communicate with my customers

It has now been over 2 months since I have ordered my Hind shell.

I e-mailed him after Christmas and he said it was poured and he just needed to trim it up.

That was a month ago.

So the wait continues. :?
