i've never understood the fuss over the kettenkrad. It's neat, i guess, but i probably wouldn't may $99 for a kit that i then have to build and paint.

Yep, but if the kit were say $60 and the finished build was $120 you would get allot more out the door... I would pay $60 for a very nice kit but no more, it is very small and though it would take some work making it very detailed their are not allot of small parts and the kits would cost very little to produce so $60 for the kit it fair.

$60 ????????

If I were making it out of resin it would have to sell for at least $120

If the kett had all wheels maybe . But it has road wheels and tracks, small but not easy to produce.

I have been doing some research on 1/16 kits of tanks, vehicles, turrets etc.,and after looking at there prices i am pretty happy with the actual prices for the 1/18 kits.
Maybe the answer to keep the prices down will be building a Kettenkrad kit that will require the use of the indiana jones german motorcycle and a 1/32 german halftrack. But still some plastic cutting will need to be done by the modeler, and not everyone has a dremmel cutting tool, not to mention the tracks will not be very accurate. Also buying and paying shipping for the German motorcycle and 1/32 halftrack will bring the price of the build up.
I rather go with a full build kit for $100.00

Thanks, tankace
I absolutely vote for KettenKrad, but my FJ rider may not fit for it, I might do another new one for Kettenkrad.

Yes, Weylen's FJ is awesome but is too bowlegged to fit into the very narrow driver channel for the Kettenkrad, as least until he updates it. :-)

It is three parts. Front wheel, front forks/handlebars, and the main body. 4 drops of CA glue and you should be done unless you want the front end to work, which is why I did it as separate parts. So not much of a kit really.

Don't you need a Notek to go on top of the front wheel guard?

you looked it up.

yes that's correct. It was to save having aircraft taxi back and forth to the runways etc. Those were desperate times.

Just a quick question. Does anyone have one of these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ATLANTIC-1-32-5 ... 1c2487491b

It looks like the back half of a kettenkrad that Atlantic enlarged and made 54mm soldiers use. I was just wondering what scale that back-end actually is. Looks like it might be 1/18 to me.

PA, thanks for the catch on the front Notek. The back Notek is ok. I'm not sure what happened to the front. I have added it back to the model.

Weylen, as far as the trailer it will be another model for those that want it. I have also thought about making a variant of it with the T bar so it could be towed by infantry or horse which from photos appeared to be common. Would anyone be interested in that? It would be the German equivalent to the US Airborne ammo cart that BBI made for the Elite Force line. This also might be a part better for PH to cast versus print given the cost and that it isn't very complex mechanically.

As for that Atlantic frankenkrad, it does look close to 1:18 scale. I'm surprised it hasn't surfaced before now. I can take a picture of 54mm (21st Century 1:32) guy sitting in the 1:18 Kettenkrad to see if it's similar enough.

When they ran out of gas for the kettens they used dairy products.

if anything, that Atlantic kettenkrad thing looks bigger than 1/18 scale to me....maybe 1/16-ishy. Except for where the driver sits, it's a near exact back end of a kettenkrad, though. Really odd.

edit: it was called: Atlantic 2159 Artillery Tractor Sd.kfz 1 Klein and came in both 1/32 and 1/72.
