Starting a new thread for discussion of all BBI figure finds...especially new finds.

Well, I found the new WWII BBi figs at TRU in Framingham MA earlier this week.

I think I know why TRU has been less than helpful in identifying these -- they don't say anything about WWII on them! Given the level of education most people have about military dress, it's kinda asking a lot to expect the employees to recognize a WWII-era uniform. These don't say WWII anywhere on the package, just "ARMY" in big letters at the top of the card.

I have to say, these are REALLY great. I think they're much better than the modern era BBI figs and I also prefer them to the recently-released paratroopers. The sculpt is a bit more interesting, the articulation is better, they just plain look better to me.

In fact, I think they're better than the Dragon Action 18 figs. The detail on them is really impressive, and the articulation is pretty well done. Some of the faces are a bit goofy -- I kinda want to display the ranger ("Bazooka Crew") in front of one of the angier-looking 21CT marines, just for the implication that the BBI fig is making rude bodily noises. Still, while the faces leave something to be desired, the gear is really well done, and as always, there's a ton of it. More than I need, really, since there is only so much I can do with tons of tiny little grenades... I kinda wish they'd gone with bigger gear, like crates or tires or more ammo boxes etc. Anything to spruce up a display.

Law, thanks for the low-down. At least maybe now we could ID them. I agree that they look to be the best 1:18 WWII figs yet.

I love the headsculpts - I think b/w the bbi paras, modern and new guys we have not only about 6 celebrity head sculpts, but also plenty of variety. I'm glad there's a chubby guy too finally

My only problem now is going to be who to display them with - they make the S1 XD figures look funny I'll worry about that when the time comes Remember, anybody want to parlay some of these new guys into out of production figures, I'm your man.

I couldn't tell, but I think so. They were tucked away in the little bin above the shelves (those bins covered by hinged flaps at TRU, you know the ones I mean I hope)

There was NO peg space allotted for BBI figs like this, so I don't know when they were planning on taking them down and displaying htem more openly. I don't know what prompted me to check the overhead bin, either, but I guess I know what to expect from TRU....

In any case, I grabbed one of each, so unless that was a full case,there should have been some left. They just weren't out, which I guess increases the odds that they are still there. I picked mine up on Wednesday, so only two days ago...

Asked a TRU employee about these figures - showing him one of the S1 figures (with parachute) for reference. Says they are at the TRU, just can't be reached and will be put out Tuesday

yes...for 2 weeks now....we're trying to get the word out...

WOW I hope they come more available online or even better available in the UK i`d love to get some of these guys.

hey all, I picked up a set for another board member and before I ship them off was able to shoot the remaining 3.
don't take these for accurate color ...the real stuff has much more OD in it..I just have bad lighting and not the patience to color correct at home

the only thing that strikes me as odd about these figures is that the base figure seems to be a semigloss plastic and then they weather it with matte paint. so you end up with this sort of semi-gloss/matte looking figure. Still these figures are great..but that is the one thing i found strange about them. If I didn't have so many 21stC I'd be picking up more of these dudes - great to have some Infantry units with patches on the shoulders - 2nd ranger ((blue diamond) and 29th infantry (blue and white ying yang looking thing) and of course the 82nd and 101st have their arm patches too - couldn't get the angle for clear pics though.

These guys look SO DAMN COOL. It really makes the whole TRU situation that much more painful.

I wonder if they don't say WWII because it would not be as appealing to the Xmas crowd as just "Army" figures. There really is NO mention of WWII.....

Yeah, those paras look a lot better than the chuted ones. I'll have to grab 'em when I see them!!

Are my eyes playing tricks on my or is the figure to far right (Major Welch) an African-American??
If so, isn't that not historically correct??
Wasn't the US armed forces intergrated after 1948??

Were there segragated units for Airborne in WWII??

Interesting observation, and yes, there weren't any African-American paratroopers in WWII. It could be that the figure has a Hispanic headsculpt, though "Welch" isn't a very hispanic last name...

I just think he is tan from having served in North Africa and the Med.

Would like to know how easy is it to swap heads, legs, arms with BBI 1/18 figures? And how do you do it what would I need to use?

With the older Army Special Ops figures, as well as the Marines (and their paint variants) its pretty easy. Heads pop off, with only a little effort, by pulling. Running hot water over the area will also help. The heads are very interchangeable and add to the fun of the figures. You can feasably fill a vehicle with a crew whose faces that all look different.
