Ever think to yourself- I have too many planes!

Post by tko211 » Mon Dec 19, 2011 8:51 pm

Title says it all! Today, I was at my studio looking at approx 60 planes and thinking to myself... Do I really have to have all these? I have another 60+ at home. It may be time to thin the herd in the customs dept! Especially knowing that I have more I want to do.

I only have a mix of 7 regular 21st, BBi and Admiral (no customs)
But short answer to the too many planes question :- NOPE! :)

Well . . . I have gotten to the point where I've actually stopped myself from buying a plane with the thought that -- hey, you already have four or five of these in different versions; or even that I already have two or three of the SAME version (with the idea of a custom some time in the misty reaches of the future . . .)

But it takes an effort. Having been bitten by the bug just after the end of the Golden Age, I definitely went through a period when I thought I would never get even a single example of something I really wanted. (Now the only thing of that kind is the Cobra.) That time created an instinct in me to QUICK -- CLICK! But that's passing now. I've got something close to 60 aircraft hanging in my mancave, and another ten or so stashed away. On top of that, I have 20+ ground vehicles and countless figures, currently all stashed away to make room for my 3D printing work. When I was designing my dream house 10 years ago, I never thought I'd be wanting more space for a hobby in just a decade.

So, yeah . . . SOMETIMES I think I MIGHT have too many. But most of the time I think I have ALMOST enough.

if possible, try to get some pictures before you thin the collection. It can be use as a reference for airplane collectors. It will also be interesting to look at,specially if they are out of the box. :)

Well, at first I was going to say I have fewer than 60 planes, however, when you collect this stuff for 11 years and have displayed, boxed and stored aircraft all over the place, one tends to amass more than they realize... I'll try to do an accurate inventory of my 1:18 scale aircraft collection:

21c P-51 (S1 tooling) x1
21c ME-109E x2
21c UH-1 Huey x2
21c Corsair x2
21c Stuka x3
21c/JSI P-38 x3
21c P-40B x3
21c P-47 (razorback) x1
21c FW-190D9 x3
21c AH-1W x2
21c P-47 (bubbletop) x2
21c Spitfire x2
21c Bf-109G6 x3
21c F-104 x4
21c TBF Avenger x3
21c P-51 (retooled) x4
21c Mig-15 x3
21c F-86 x2
21c ME-262A x1
21c ME-262B x1
Admiral Toys F-86 x2
Admiral Toys ME-262A x1
BBI Littlebird (S1 tooling) x1
BBI Littlebird Nightstalker (S2 tooling) x2
BBI Apache x1
BBI Blackhawk x1
BBI Kiowa x2
BBI F-18 x1
BBI F-16 x2
BBI P-51D x3
BBI Corsair x2
BBI Zero x3
BBI Hellcat x1
BBI Bf-109G2 x2
JSI F-14 x1
Pegasus V-1 x1
Pegasus X-1 x1
PTE Chinese Helicopter x1
Pickelhaube HO-229 (coming soon) x1

Wow 76 aircraft

That's about twice as many as I thought! Maybe some thinning is in order... or perhaps not

I would say that'd be too many if they were exactly the same paint schemes, but if you're customizing them you need the extras.

You can never have too many planes. I am in the 75+ club and I would just like to see a greater variety to my collection. Hopefully that will come with time.

Around 70+ in 1/18 (with no duplicates and one custom). Seriously excited about getting one of the (potential) new 1/18th Dauntlesses so no, I can't have too many...I want every new aircraft that comes out 1/18th!

I know what is like to have so many items of the same and different.I have (27) 1/18 tanks and there are many repaints in my collection.I still need to get some custom tanks from pickle and some 1/16 tanks that i will have to get because they are not available in 1/18.The hardest part is to let go of the repaints in order to make room for new armor. So far i will keep all the tanks even if i have to keep them in storage.I can imagine is even harder on a 1/18 plane collector because of the size of the airplanes.I suggest you to hold on to them for two month and if you still feel the same way about shrinking the collection, then go for it.Sometimes that feeling of shrinking the collection is temporary.
