Armor guys sound off!

Post by mondaytanker » Tue Sep 27, 2005 10:49 am

Ok, with all the talk of what planes we all want to see. How about reminding the manufacturers that there is a market for ground forces.

21st can start with this piece. (from centone's web shots)
http://community.webshots.com/photo/227 ... 2237MDpXDA

I would also like to see a 1/18 scale M60AX. A late version would be nice, one without reactive armor (OD) and one with (tan). It only served as our MBT for over 30 years.

How about a Paladin? Or a howitzer? And maybe something to tow it with. Or an M-24, M-26 and a decent M1A2. Or an 8 ton half track to tow the 88... :o

And re-releases. Some of us didn't jump on the band wagon until recently. At least make some of the vehicles available to the on-line retailers.

My point is that some of this stuff is smaller and might fit into WM's $23 price bracket. And when I go to WM or the online shops I don't buy duplicates unless they are on major clearance. So if they want my money, offer me something different to buy and I'm not talking re-paints. My new motto will be: "Have money. Will buy armor!"

I need stuff to drive my Tamiya's around.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Sure do!!! I'll take any armor I can get, but would particularly like to see a King Tiger, an M26, and an M60 (could do both VN era and more recent).

I would love to see some artillery, either self propelled or towed. Or some SAM trailers. And trucks are always good.

Even to pacify the airplane crowd, how about some fuel trucks?

Armor Guys...

Post by normandy » Tue Sep 27, 2005 3:13 pm

I'd like to see just about anything 21st is making in 1/32nd made in 1/18th. 8) An 88mm flak gun with crew and a Pak 40 now that would be cool. Armor as in TANKS  bring em on. I think the King Tiger would be a great seller, as others have said look at how many 1/16th FOV Tigers were sold and at how many $$$.$$ per tank? I love the Panzer IV. I have 3 at this point in time and will be picking up more in the future, the customs you can do with this tank well the skys the limit. :D
The only reason I have soooo many planes is that it takes so DANG long between tank releases :P Just bustin b*##$ 21st I've got stuff in all 3 scales but XD armor is what I'm into. Keep up the great work!

Yup. Want armour. That's what got me into this stuff in the first place. Any new
armour or armoured cars will do at this point. I made suggestions over the years, but the planes have dominated.

Anything anyone has mentioned works.
M60a1, Abrams, challenger I or II, LeClerc, stuart, KonegsTiger, Churchhill
, Comet, T-95, T-72, Saladin, scorpion,
M4A3 with a t-28 turret ( why is this not done?), leopard 1A4 or II, jagdpanther
and the list goes on.

I'm waiting .............

patiently ...........

bought lots of bloody ( actually very cool) planes, jets & helecopters ......

some day, over the rainbow, there will be tanks.....

Not just tanks. Come on guys. How about some support vehicles:

Trucks, any kind, any size, any country.
Artillery, any kind from anti-tank guns up to Long Toms and 240mm Howitzer.
Tow vehicles, prime movers, wheeled or tracked to pull the artillery.
Radio vans or trucks.
Ambulances, KD or fixed.
Half-tracks and armored cars, any size, any country.

Gun trucks, duece up to 5 ton.

Oh, and buy the way, if we're requesting the 1/32 line be scaled up to our 1/18 toys, how about just keep going and scale up to 1/6 8)

21C can do it if we support them. :)

I agree with more 1:18 Armor and Artillary!

If 21st didn't want to design new equipment, they could build on their existing Dodge WC57 Command Car or the WC63 Weapons Carrier. How about a Dodge 3/4 ton Ambulance or 3/4 ton Dodge Truck!
And the M3A3 Halftrack could come with quad 50's! Or maybe a searchlight (working would be killer)! Or even a Scout Car!

How about a German Hanomag Halftrack with a searchlight or mounted PAK or side rocket launchers or..... Or Panther or Tiger Chassis with modifications such as a JagdPanther or Jagdtiger! And that's just a couple from WWII!
Get my point 21st Century Toys!

And that is my $22.74 worth!

Here is an old toy that is a good replica of a sdkfz 232 armored car. Just about 1/18 too. For those of you who have a spare thousand dollars:

How about the actual tanks used in the movie "Beast". The T-54~55(?), with proper unit markings and such.

If I remember right, someone on here said that those tanks were captured, refurbished, re-gunned to 105s(?) and issued. And then used in a movie. I like one of a kind, unique examples. Something with a real story to it.

MondayT:

We are getting "off thread" here but:

The T-55's used in "The Beast" were captured by the Israeli's after the '67 war from Egypt, upgunned and used by them until they were sold as surplus. Most captured vehicles are kept by the Israeli's in their "ready reserve" in case of war. Being Iraeli means they do not let anything go to waste and are not bothered by national origin of the equipment. After WW2 and the birth of Israel, some of the first tanks they got and put into service were Panzer IV's and some of their earliest air force fighters were a few Me-109's.

The movie "The Beast" was filmed in Israel and while a really great film with a great cast, it unfortunately was finished just as we started friendly relations with Russia and the film was deemed very anti-Russian and somebody in DC asked Hollywierd to downplay the movie and it just disapeared until the video and cable revolution came looking for every movie they could find.

Equipment in the movie was great, down to the "Ka boom tank" Ruskie rocket launcher being repaired by using parts from a WW2 Enfield .303 rifle. :?

One thought would be for 21C to do a M42 Duster, since it's based on the M41 chassis. All they would need to do would be a new turret.

The M42 was widely used in Vietnam.

Gunner:

Using a chasis from a previous release won't work. I've been saying for years that 21C could build on their M3 Half-track to make: a M2 Half-track with just a post mounted mg (no pulpet) and of couse a M16 with a quad mount or a mortar carrier, or a half-track with a mounted gun (75mm or 105mm). And then carry a gun idea on to a gun by itself on a two wheel carriage.....wow :D

Seems like a simple suggestion to make us happy, right? :)

21C always has some reason to kill those ideas. A M-42 would be great.
