German Infantry Help

I was thinking of beefing up my German army this Christmas. I was wondering if all the infantry in one unit each had the same camo. I need to know if I should buy a bunch of different figs, or buy a lot of the same figs and switch some heads so I have all the same camo.
Please help.

No. It was mixed. Remember, keep SS camo with SS, WH camo with WH, and LW camo with LW.

Thank you, But I don't really know the difference of camos. And what does WH (I assume Wermacht) and LW mean?

AJ, your on the right track. Flyboy referring to WH means Wehrmacht and LW would be Luftwaffe.

SS is just a trench coat i do believe

The SS stuff is marked SS.

All others are basically WH/LW.

Fast run up, All splinter patterns are WH, all dot looking patterns are SS. Italian camo is SS or WH depending on the unit.

Many of the camos look similar, and I'm lazy so I won't bother repainting any German figs and most likely use them all together sometimes.

Nice reference. Got me thinking of how many times we actually got carded SS soldiers (more or less) from both 21c and Unimax. There was all the commotion and "hush-hush" attitude about the 21c SS set with the soldiers in parade dress, but then no one said a word about the SS soldiers being sold at TRU and Target

They are all "Wehrmacht", the term means armed forces.
The army was called the Deutsches Heer or just Heer.

Would Wehrmacht and SS fight together at times?

Yes sometimes, especially early on when some SS units were attached to army outfits.

Also Some Luftwaffe units wore SS camouflage, most notably the Herman Goering division, and SS paratroopers wore jumpsmocks in the Splinter-B pattern of Luftwaffe paras.

Just wonder why the allies didnt catch on to using camo in WW2 besides the pacific marines? Even till Vietnam, more then 2 decades after WW2, US troops were still in non camo uniforms, not counting SF, Seals and Lrrps

There are accounts of US troops using camouflage uniforms in the ETO but there was a problem.......most US troops didn't get or know about them, so anything camo was a target.....must be Germans. Friendly fire is never a good thing.

Fear of friendly fire sounds reasonable for ETO, probably explain why PTO marines were in camo because the japanese didnt have them.

For the allies, so far only found some pics of camo for pathfinders and smocks for Brit paras.

Still, it is impressive that the germans, under pressure on all fronts including economic, invested in so many camo patterns with design and manufacture and distribution

Yeah, as far as I know, they were just used in the ETO, during Operation Cobra.
