[+] New 1:18 bbi 109 / The Black Devil of Ukraine 1943

Post by MG-42 » Fri Sep 30, 2011 10:40 am

* I just received it from BadCat this morning. I must say it is a beautiful bird. It is flawless , the pilot is awesome. The box itself is pretty cool too but it's not a "window box" though but instead , opens on 3-sides. Apparently , it comes w/ a Certificate of Authenticity and is a Ltd. Edition. 8) ...

* Sorry , I can't provide any pics other than what's already on the net. Perhaps somebody else can once they get theirs.

Hoping to get mine today... My local Hobbytown gets their planes in from the same BBI distributor as Badcat - which means I should have picked up the plane last Friday :P However, they goofed on the order and so hopefully have them coming in today. Either way, wait or no wait, picking up local saved me nearly $20 8)

Very glad to hear it is flawless :D

a friend of mine already got his and it's flawless like MG said. i really like how bbi design their new boxes, lately. it's pretty slick.

i'm not much into wwII models, but this plane is getting to me. argh, must resist the temptation!

I got a shipping notice on mine yesterday. Looking forward to it. Although somehow I went from having just two 109s to this being my SIXTH one in a fairly short time (some good deals on BST ...)

The "Buy, Sell, Trade" forum here. I've almost completely stopped looking on eBay. Since I got bitten with the 1/18 bug (sadly, after the end of the Golden Age), I've managed to get at least one of everything I "want" with the exception of a Cobra, which I've all but given up looking for. Given that I display my stuff or chop it up for customs, I have no interest in "NIB" collector items. These days, anything I can conceive of wanting -- other than the rare new releases -- I'll get from other forum members.

Darn hobbyshop, or distributor, or whatever :twisted: Looks like it will be sometime this week that they'll get the planes in as nothing had come in as of this past Friday. The woes of buying local... I was planning to do a comparison shot with the S1 BBI 109 and the 21c Gunther Rall 109, but it looks like my pictures will have to wait... However, TheFlyingMule has some excellent photos of the new repaint: http://www.flyingmule.com/products/BB-003771

MG-42 and the rest of you that already have this are right - truly amazing :D

Just got a Black one in the mail. Totally amazing detail the BBI plane has! :shock: I am painting it for a fellow board member!

Looking at the pics from Flying Mule and noticed the pilot doesnt seem to have elbow and knee articulation, is this right?

The fuselage with the overlapping markings are also very unusual

Its does look very good though, very very tempting

Bad Cat is selling these on ebay, starting them at .99 with free shipping, seems like they are selling around 80 with free shipping, Im watching the trend, hopefully they over ordered and the price will start to drop, I use to be able to buy the original bbi 109 in bulk, 10 at a time for 60 a piece (shipped), hope these come down like that, although higher sales may lead to more 1/18 products in the future

Got the new BBI Bf-109 from my local Hobbytown store today :D

Yes, its the same tooling as the previous BBI '109 save for the new paint job and the addition of the gun pods (a very nice addition that pulls the plane together!) BBI did a simply fantastic job with the paint work and weathering on this aircraft. In my opinion, it is simply the best-looking of all the 1:18 scale Bf-109s, period. No QC issues or serious paint flaws on my aircraft. It has the right colors and RLM shades of colors (as near as I can tell). The S1 BBI '109 was great, but had a really bland paint job and overall lack of armament. The S2 aircraft makes up for it in every way.

I've posted a few photos below of my plane... While online stores like TheFlyingMule have MUCH better photos of the actual product, some of you may enjoy the comparison shots with the new Bf-109 8)

The paint schemes are very similar, but the Hartmann plane may have the edge...

Great pics -- thanks. As I scrolled down, I thought to myself that you were composing the shots just as I would. Before I got to the bottom, I thought, "I bet he poses it with the 21st S1 109" . . .

Hopefully mine will arrive today . . .

Tman,

That really looks incredible, thanks for posting pics.

Does it have swasticas for the tail?

I was really tempted by the bbi one but just realised I have the 21st gunther rall one too and they are indeed very similar in looks from your pics. I do think the bbi one is better made but I'll give this scheme a pass and hopefully not regret it

Bought mine from Aiken’s Airplanes. It's always a pleasure dealing with Sally. It should be here tomorrow.

I know it's a minor detail, but 21C's 109G appears to have a more accurate tailwheel than BBI's...Looking at reference pictures in Squadraon/Signal Publiction's "Messerschmitt Bf 109 in Action".
That being said, BBI is alive & quite well - 21C isn't!
Getting my new BBI 109 tomorrow!

Looks pretty nice, but as far as weathering goes, the dirt stains belong BEHIND the oil cooler and radiators, rather than in front of them. The intake areas remain relatively clean.

* Nice pics "tman" , thanks ! 8) ...

->>>------> Good point "Snake Man".

* I'm also confused as to why the markings on the underside of the wings were'nt overlapped w/ new markings like the fuselage. :? :roll:

............ anybody know why this is ??? ... I don't think this is a mistake though , however.

That plane would have had previous markings then instead of repainting the plane/area they just applied them over the old ones.

The bottom lettering is may be the planes initial markings after the factory, once a pilot and number and group is established, they painted over it, the white squiggle means 4th group. My problem with it is the white 2 and the squiggle are to high, they should be more centered on the cross. Also this is where a good modeler could make the plane look 1000% better, the bottom letters/numbers should be faded and weathered, they were painted on long before the white ones were painted over and yet they appear to have been painted on 10 minutes latter. Yes Snake man is right, there is no reason for the black spot on the bottom of the cowling, that is an air intake, no exhaust comes out the back either, that is unless the engine is on fire :lol:

Exercising my limited knowledge in markings suggests, the aircraft, "White 2" is of III Gruppe (The little squiggle), .7 staffel (Because the markings are white).
