Poll: 1/16 vs. 1/18
Poll: 1/16 vs. 1/18
With the hope of new 1/18 armour all but gone (i wonder how long we've all been in denial?), other than the low production options from Pickel, Grunt, Gary, Woofer etc i'm curious as to how people have adapted. Mostly curious who has moved on to or incorporated 1/16 tanks and vehicles (as opposed to just smaller 1/16 accessories) into their 1/18 collecting but i've included other options as well.
i never met an airplane i didn't like...

To the end, but the end already happened didn't it?
The only 1:16 I have is the Danbury Mint Jeep.

Re: Poll: 1/16 vs. 1/18
I mix freely aside from tank/tank. Tank/support stuff? No problemo. I like to display them separately ultimately, but just so my 1/16 tanks are easier to reach to roll them around a while.

Re: Poll: 1/16 vs. 1/18
1/72 - a few
1/35 - a few
1/18 - a few planes, helos and alot of vehicles and figs
1/10 - two very lonely Jeeps and a few figs
1/16 - a bunch of tanks and a couple of tank crewman
1/6 - alot of vehicles (40+ vehicles, 10+ artillery, AA guns, AT guns) and 60+ figs..... and 2 horses and 1 cat.
One lonely 18" fig
1/1 - a few replica and real guns, extra stuff like web gear (most mine from VN, but some WW2) and some dummy artillery, mortar shells and grenades.
No favoritism here, if I like it, I buy it.

Re: Poll: 1/16 vs. 1/18
I will stick with 1/18 ish scale as long as there are various figures and vehicles available (ie. BBI, Indiana Jones...other movie marketing toys), or I run out of pieces I have put away. I have enough boxed armor to keep me going every month for the next three years+. And when you get my age that is enough to entertain me quite awhile as I will probably forget most of what I have after a year. If I get creative, there are always many variations. But then again, for me it is just another hobby, not a lifestyle!

Threetoughtrucks - "If I like it I buy it"
There's my problem - I LIKE far too much!
I can't just stick to one thing, tried going for just 1/18 vehicles, but always seem to get side-tracked. I went to an electrical store and there was a 1/16 RC Tiger 1 looking like it needed a home, so that got into the collection, about a month later we're on holiday up country and I find a shop selling replica weapons and walked out with a 1/1 Thompson SMG. Now I've got to go back and get the M1 Carbine they put back for me.
I wouldn't mind but I only went out to buy a carton of milk!

Re: Poll: 1/16 vs. 1/18
I will stick with the 1/18 because once in a while a movie like Indiana Jones,Valkyrie or something else comes out.And sometimes figure lines come out, they usually are 1/18.zonetoys wrote:I will stick with 1/18 ish scale as long as there are various figures and vehicles available (ie. GI Joe is 1/18 ,so i think the 1/18 scale is the most dominant scale in action figures. However we are looking for specific WWII vehicles,it may not happen any time soon. Some times when a tank is not available in 1/18 but is available in 1/16 makes us wonder if we should change scales. To me if a tank is not available in 1/18 i go to Pickel or the Hun.However if is something they won't make, like in the case of the Elephant tank, then i get it in 1/16.
Re: Poll: 1/16 vs. 1/18
1/18 to the end. Even if nothing new comes out I still have several versions of the Sherman to build using custom parts produced by pickelhaube.
There are also pickelhaube's other kits.
I have built models in various scales in the past, but have now settled on one for my cars, tanks ,planes and figures.

Re: Poll: 1/16 vs. 1/18
I was a military collector for longer than most of this board was alive. As most of youse guys know, my field of interest was 1/1 military vehicles. OK, I had picked up a few small scale items, along the way, my daughter, while in Paris, bought me a red French Command Car with French Fire Dept markings in 1/72 (at that time I still owned a 1/1 Command Car) and after finding a WW2 Ford Jeep for a buddy behind a church in the old country (Brooklyn),as thanks, my buddy made a 1/35 CC for me painted and lettered up the same as my CC.
My downfall came when one of my sons bought me a 21C 1/18 CC for a birthday present. I was hooked and bought everything 21C made in 1/18 (vehicles) and then 1/6 (when 1/18 ran out) and now 1/6 and 1/16 when Pickel and you other customizers are not making some more "knock your socks off" 1/18 stuff that I buy.
Up to know, I have not been a modeler, but that might change now as I'm collecting stuff to build my first custom (a 21C 1/6 Scout Car to be Patton's personal Scout Car)...... who knows where that will lead?

Re: Poll: 1/16 vs. 1/18
I've moved on completely to 1:6 figures. I don't post here very often any more but I still hang around because I like the community and because this can be a good place to get news on military action figures in general. I never collected 1:18 aircraft and when it comes to 1:18 armor and figures there isn't much coming out except for some items being produced by some very talented board members. And while their stuff is amazing I'm on a tight budget and just can't afford it. 1:6 figures can be very expensive as well but except for a few very select purchases I'm not buying the high end stuff and I've found that when you're bashing your own figures you can spread the cost out over time. Hopefully 1:18 will come back one day but I don't see that happening anytime in the next few years.
Re: Poll: 1/16 vs. 1/18
I collect multi scales from 1/144 to 1/6, but none in 1/16 but probably would jump in if I can find a reasonably priced King Tiger.
There wasn't an option of something like "Keeping my beloved 1/18 but will/might give 1/16 a chance" that describes me so I picked the 1st option.
